The '''Wii U Virtual Console''' is the name of [[Nintendo]]'s retro video game emulator for the Wii U. Games are bought using 'points' which are purchased with real currency through the eShop Channel, which accesses the {{c|Nintendo eShop}}. Currency can be added to your account with a credit card or by purchasing a prepaid card worth a set amount of points. Games can be played offscreen on the Wii U GamePad, without use of the television.
The Wii U Virtual Console is not to be confused with the modern content acquired through the Wii U's eShop channel (e.g. Hyrule Warriors can be purchased through the eShop, but it does not interact with the Wii U VC). Similarly, the Wii Shop channel offers Wii U owners a way to purchase wiiware titles and emulated games for use on the emulated Wii interface (e.g. content exclusive to the Wii)
