Heroes of Might and Magic III is a turn-based strategy game pitting armies of wizards, gremlins, demons, dragons and other magical creatures against each other. Each player begins with a single town, which can be expanded and improved to over the course of the game. The towns contain creature dwellings from which the player's heroes recruit warriors to battle their enemies with. In the original game, there were eight different town types:

With the introduction of expansion packs, a new town was added: Conflux.
