| Player organisations known as clans are fairly common in RuneScape. The clans generally consist of a small group of players working towards a common goal - for example, earning money by selling valuable items made by the clan.

| There are also combat clans who generally work by entering the wilderness and leveling up their Combat skills by PKing (player-killing) other players.

| Until recently, over 70 clans were involved in a large grouping of clans named the Chaos Alliance. This alliance contained over 9000 people, until it fell due to a rebellion while the leader - a P2P member under the username Red Echidna0 - was on holiday. The Chaos Shamans (the Alliance's leading clan) recently decided to reform the Alliance in conjunction with a small combat clan.
