The creator of the series, Keiji Inafune, planned it to be concluded with Mega Man X 5, whose sequel is Mega Man Zero. Capcom decided otherwise, and further titles were published, although in contrast with the Inafune's continuity that includes the Mega Man Zero series.  Keiji Inafune was the author for the games up till Mega Man X5.

* MMX2: Agile, Serges, Violen
* MMX:CY: Techno, Geemel, Zain
* MMX3: Doppler, Vile (2), Byte, Bit
* MMX:SE: Berkana, Gareth
* MMX4: General, Colonel, Double, Iris
* MMX5: Dynamo
* MMX6: Gate, High Max, Dynamo (2)
* MMX7: Red
