Bounce on this turtle to reach Aku Aku.

This is the first side-scrolling level. You will have to climb along the walls of the palisade, defeating the enemies you will meet on your way. At the start of the level, you will have to use the iron arrow boxes to climb the fence. Proceed to the right and defeat the enemies, being careful not to fall into the holes. Once you reach the right edge of the gate, you will have to climb to the level above, using the rolling platform (by doing a jumping spin into it) and the usual arrow crates. Then proceed to the left. In this part you will also have to avoid some spikes and flames (their emitter acting as a trampoline when not lit). To reach the Aku Aku box, jump onto the turtle as it walks under it to turn it over, then do a high jump while bouncing on it. To defeat the enemies holding a shield, you will have to jump on them so they hold their shield above them, then spin into them.

This hidden route can be found on the gem path.

You should find three Tawna tokens as you proceed left, allowing you to access this level's bonus round. At the start of the bonus round, be sure to detonate the TNT box when going for the gem in the N. Sane Trilogy version, as this counts toward the level's box total. Use the arrow box to hit the ! box, then destroy it and bounce along the boxes that cover a gap. At the end of the bonus round is a hefty reward of two extra lives. After exiting the bonus round, keep going left to find the exit portal.

Getting the gem[edit]

The first time you take this level, it should be short and easy, but getting the gem is much more difficult. You will first need to get the yellow gem from The Lab. In this way, you will be able to pass the exit portal and reach the highest level of the fence, where the last boxes are located. Proceeding without dying here is much more complicated. To find some chests, you will also have to jump behind the gate, using the arrow boxes (you will easily recognize these spots where you can jump behind the gate, as the trunk is not pointed). Eventually, after one last climb, you will find another exit portal.

The hunt for a relic should be relatively straightforward, with possibly the biggest challenge being getting through the entire level without falling to the many hazards that litter it. If getting through without taking a hit proves too challenging, use the Aku Aku masks; breaking open the first box does consume some time, but when going for gold, the trial should still be doable.

To save time on the actual climbing portions, practice doing high jumps on the iron arrow boxes and spinning into the rolling platforms as efficiently possible. While perfecting the latter strategy may take some time, it is entirely doable to both proceed upward and spin the platform upright with a single spinning jump; just time the spin so that it reaches the platform in time.
