Player[edit]
Sayo-chan is a Miko, or shrine maiden, whose fate it is to be visited by the Shichifukujin, or seven gods of fortune, shortly before they are whisked away by demons. At that moment, she sets out on a journey across feudal Japan in an effort to rescue each of them from seven different bosses who are various demons from ancient Japanese mythology. As a Miko, she has two weapons at her disposal; her Gohei, a purification wand that bats away most of the smaller demons that confront her, and her Ofuda talismans, which she throws at the enemy. The power of her Ofuda can be increased by collecting various items. She can also collect two types of crystal balls which may be used when she's in a pinch. Sayo will lose one life whenever she is touched by an enemy, or the projectiles that they shoot. When she runs out of lives, the game is over. Sayo will earn extra lives by reaching certain scores, typically 70,000 and 150,000 by default.
Items[edit]
Blue Ofuda | Red Ofuda |
---|---|
The blue Ofuda will increase the length at which your Ofuda will travel. The more you collect, the farther your Ofuda fly. However, if you are greedy once your Ofuda reaches the maximum distance, and you continue to collect the blue Ofuda, the stamina of the next boss will increase. Therefore, only collect as many blue Ofuda as you need. | Collecting the red Ofuda will give your Ofuda the ability to travel through an enemy, instead of stopping when they hit something. |
Yellow Ofuda | Double Ofuda |
The yellow Ofuda will increase the size of the Ofuda that you throw. Throwing larger Ofuda makes it much easier to hit enemies. | The rare double Ofuda has the effect of drastically increasing the speed at which Sayo-chan will throw the Ofuda. |
Blue Crystal | Yellow Crystal |
By using a blue crystal, Sayo-chan will freeze time for approximately eight seconds. During this time, the enemy cannot advance or fire upon Sayo, but she can still lose a life if she runs into them. This does not work on bosses. | Using the yellow crystal will instantly annihilate regular enemies that can be seen on the screen, and a short distance beyond. Naturally, it does not work against the bosses. |
Onigiri | Gohei |
Collect the onigiri, or rice ball, to receive 2000 bonus points. | The Gohei appears under very rare circumstances. Collecting it will grant Sayo-chan an extra life. In order to earn it, you must shoot a location that contains a hidden crystal ball when the last three digits of your score are all zeros. |
Kagi | Scrolls |
In order to reach the boss, you must find and collect the key laying on the ground somewhere in the stage. If you reach the boss prior to collecting the key, you will not be able to enter the area, and must backtrack in order to find the key. They are never hidden, they are always visible in plain sight. | These three items are only available in the eighth and final stage. You must find all three of them to finish the game by sweeping the structures in the ground with your purification wand. |
