Need for Speed: High Stakes, released in Europe and Brazil as Need for Speed: Road Challenge and in Japan as Over Drivin' IV, is a 1999 racing video game, developed by EA Canada and published by Electronic Arts. It is the 4th game in Electronic Arts' Need for Speed series. It once again features a host of exotic cars and tracks located in Western Europe and North America. It is notable in the Need for Speed franchise for the first installment to include a damage model and a career mode wherethe player earns money by winning races and can spend it on more cars, upgrades, or repairs. Cars
The cars in Need for Speed: High Stakes is more detailed than Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. For the first time, cars have transparent windows, where the driver and the interior can be viewed. Players can also take down the roof of a convertible and vice versa. Like previous Need for Speed titles, players still have a choice look up real-life information and pictures of the cars via showcase.
