Continue through into Mt. Lavalava. In the first room, quickly jump from each of the small platforms as they will sink the longer you stand on them. On a larger platform, wait until a moving platform makes its way toward you and jump on it. Continue on, jumping quickly from the smaller platforms.

In the next, jump onto the zipline and make your way down. At the bottom, if you go right, you have the opportunity to upgrade a character. It is recommended to upgrade Sushie to Ultra Rank. Continue to the right and find a staircase that leads farther down. Grab onto the next zip line you see. From here, go to the right. On the upper floor, you will use Parakarry to get across the lava. Push the blue boxes one at a time into the lava. Next, go along the lower path to the right and fly across the lava. Go into the next room.
In the next, jump onto the zipline and make your way down. Continue to the right and find a staircase that leads farther down. Here, you'll find a save block, with a zip-line going to the left, and a door to the right. The doorway to the right is the 'correct' way deeper into the volcano, but first we'll need to find the Ultra Hammer.

Push the two blocks in a straight line in the lava so that you can cross the lava. Climb the rocks in the back of the room to get to the treasure chest. This will give you the ultra hammer. Destroy the metal box to the right with the hammer and exit the room. In the next room, cross the lava, stay on the lower floor and move to the right. Break the metal box and go into the next room for the Dizzy Stomp badge. Exit the room to the main area.
Head down the zipline to the left. Make sure to press A to fall off half-way through, in order to grab the '''Fire Shield''' badge. At the bottom of the zipline, head to the left and down the long corridor.

Go to the right until you see a spring. Jump on it. Break the metal box to the right. Continue right until stopped. Move the blue box to the edge of the cliff and break all of the metal boxes. Continue moving to the right, hit the heart box, go the the left, and go down the stairs. Continue right to the next section.
On the upper floor, you will use Parakarry to get across the lava. Push the blue boxes one at a time into the lava, in order to block the lava flow and reveal a new path. Next, go along the lower path to the right and fly across the lava.

Push the two blocks in a straight line in the lava, once again allowing you to fly across the lava. Climb the rocks in the back of the room to get to the treasure chest, and find the '''Ultra Hammer'''. Destroy the metal box to the right with the hammer and exit the room. In the next room, cross the lava, stay on the lower floor and move to the right. Break the metal box and go into the next room for the Dizzy Stomp badge. Backtrack until you reach the bottom of the zipline where you found the Fire Shield badge.

To the far right of the bottom level, you'll find a doorway - ignore this for now. Instead, jump on the spring in the middle of the room to take you back to the top of the zipline, and head through the now-accessible doorway on the right. Here, there is a zipline leading deeper into the volcano, but don't miss the opportunity to bring another character to Ultra Rank. To do this, go along the zipline until you see a shaft of light coming from above. Jump off the zipline to fall into the room you ignored earlier. If you timed this right, you'll land on a platform containing the upgrade. If you haven't already upgraded Sushie to Ultra rank, you ought to do so - her Tidal Wave attack will be very useful in the boss battle.

Head back up to the zipline, and this time ride it all the way to the end. Before you enter the next room, get ready - a large spike ball will fall, and you'll need to outrun it. This is very hard to do, but will only cost 1hp if you fail.

Follow the platforms along to the right, jumping over the fire (Fun fact: Neither the fire nor the lava will kill you if you're on 1hp, but will still make you invulnerable for a few seconds).

In the next room, cross the checkered bridge and push the blue box back along it, allowing you reach the stairway of metal boxes. Break them all, but get ready to run out the way of the spike ball - unlike poor Kolodoro. Follow him all the way to the right, past the heart box for some useful goodies.

Heal up, and head downstairs to the save block. You're about the enter a boss battle, so make any preparations you need. In particular, this is a good time to review your badges, and take advantage of the new ones you've picked up. Mario won't be able to attack the boss with his hammer, so remove any hammer badges and replace them with jumping ones. Sushie's moves are going to be useful, but expensive, so more FP is likely to be helpful too. Since you'll only really be using Sushie, Quick Change isn't much help either.

Sushie is recommended for this battle at Ultra Rank. The first stage of this battle is easier, as you can make direct contact with Lava Piranha. However, Sushie's first turn should be used to surround Mario with a Sushie's water block ability while Mario should use a Power Bounce (or just plain jump on him).
Sushie is recommended for this battle at Ultra Rank. The battle happens in two stages, with the Lava Piranha getting stronger after the first 'defeat'.

However, Sushie's first turn should be used to surround Mario with a Sushie's water block ability while Mario should use a Power Bounce (or just plain jump on him). The main head has 40 hp, with the two buds having 8 hp. Tidal Wave and Star Storm may help you out here.

In the second half, Mario can no longer jump on the buds. A powerful enough Tidal Wave will take the buds down, while you take down the main head. Note that you won't kill the buds permanently here - they'll spring back up eventually, until you defeat the head.

After you beat the Fire Pirahna and collect the 5th Star Spirit, Misstar, the volcano will start to erupt. The room will start to shake and you enter will enter the room to the right. When you go up the steps the lava will start to rise and you will use Bombette to break through the cracked wall. Once you continue forward to a dead end, Kolorado will find the treasure, but it's too high up so you can't reach it, Misstar will then pick Mario and Kolorado up and fly out of the volcano just in time, after this it will go back to Princess Peach in the Castle.

Once again, Peach will sneak out of her room to gather information for Mario. Go through the fireplace as usual, and into the main room. Head downstairs, and then through the door on the left hand side.
