Before Trial

You learn from Miles Edgeworth of the name of the Prosecutor: Manfred von Karma. He is considered a god of prosecutors. Throughout the 40 years of his career, Karma is never lost a single case, or so he claims. Karma would do just anything to make the "guilty" verdict, and Miles means anything! He even taught Edgeworth what it means to "prosecute"! Phoenix calls for Mia's help, but with lack of training from the past few months, Maya is too weak to reach her. Is it over already? Guess you'll have to see.

Day two: Court Mode

After a few scares from Karma whose opening statements are decisive evidence and a decisive witness, Gumshoe takes the stand and describes the events of the day of the murder.

  • The murder happened late Christmas Eve, around midnight.
  • There was one boat in the very middle of the lake.
  • There were two men on the boat.
  • Now, there happen to be a woman camping here on the edge of the lake.
  • On 12:10AM, she heard two pistol shots
  • Then the boat started to move.
  • It went towards the boat rental shop.

The Overhead Map will be added to your Court Record. Karma demands Gumshoe to testify his court about his arrest. The judge says it wasn't Karma's job; however Karma insults the Judge by telling his job was to slam the gavel down and say the word "guilty". The Judge agrees. This doesn't look good.

Gumshoe's Testimony: The Arrest of Edgeworth

Gumshoe
Gumshoe
Gumshoe's Testimony
- The Arrest of Edgeworth -
  1. A man called into the station around 30 minutes after midnight.
  2. We headed to the scene of the crime as fast as we could.
  3. That's where we found Edgeworth.
  4. Now I didn't suspect him of anything at all.
  5. But... the next morning, a body was found at the lake.
  6. So we had to arrest Edgeworth.

The Arrest of Edgeworth: Cross-Examination

Karma demands you to begin cross-examining.

Press him on his 5th statement. Gumshoe will show the bullet that was in the body. The Pistol Bullet will be added to the Court Record.

Now Press him on his 6th statement. Gumshoe says they found the pistol on the boat. The Judge orders Gumshoe to add a new statement.

  • The weapon we found on the boat was decisive evidence.

Press him on that statement. Karma will laugh at you, just like Edgeworth did once. It turns out, there were Edgeworth's fingerprint's of his right hand on the pistol. Karma sees that as critical evidence, and demands that the Pistol will be added to the Court Record. Karma asks that if the bullet came from the pistol. Thanks to the ballistic markings (the fingerprints of the gun) it is. Karma concludes that the bullet that killed the victim was fired from the gun with the fingerprints of the defendant. The Judge would declare the verdict, but he needs to listen more of the witness' testimony. Karma then has the Judge call a recess.

Phoenix tells Edgeworth about the fingerprints. Egdeworth that was on the boat but he didn't shoot him. He heard a shot very close by. The other man probably shot himself. Suicide? Edgeworth claims he wasn't sure, and that it's the only explanation to come up with. Maya still has no progress with Mia. She wonder if she is not any help anymore. Say No, I need you here, you'll see later why. After arguing with her, Edgeworth will interrupt, saying it's bad for his heart. Recess is over, so let's continue in court.

Karma calls Lotta Hart to the stand, and demands her to talk without adding anything trivial or subjective, Much to Lotta's disturbance.

Lotta's Testimony: Witness's Account

Lotta
Lotta
Lotta's Testimony
- Witness's Account -
  1. It was Christmas Eve, just after midnight I reckon.
  2. I was in my car.
  3. I heard this "bang" come up from the lake.
  4. When I looked out the window, I saw two gents in the boat.
  5. Then there was another "bang"...
  6. There wasn't nary a thing on the lake but that boat.

Karma hears enough, as Lotta told the court, she had a picture of the moment of the murder, and there are no other boats in that lake, so no other man would shoot the victim, but Edgeworth, having little hope of this mission, the Judge decides to call the verdict. However, you still need a cross-examination. Karma decides to let you do so, as he thinks you'll fail to find a contradictory of the testimony, if you don't, he'll sentence you to contempt of court. Maya asks you if there is a contradictory, say I think there was.

Witness's Account: Cross-Examination

Press Lotta on her 2nd statement. She was camping there, because she was doing a project for her university. Choose Press Harder , Karma will object to this as research has nothing to do with the murder and has the Judge sustain the objection.

Press the 3rd and 4th statements, Press Harder on the latter statement, and she'll reveal to you that she saw the two men with her own eyes. Karma objects to this, is he hiding something? Press Lotta on her 5th and 6th statement. She reveals that she witnessed the other shot. Press Harder on the latter statement. Lotta says that she was scanning the whole lake. The whole lake, was she looking for something else? Karma, of course, objects to this and finds all of your questions hopeless, thus, he'll say that Phoenix will be out of the courtroom if he has another outburst. The Judge calls Edgeworth to the stand, before he does however another outburst.

Seeing that Lotta's Testimony "stinks", and seeing Phoenix has no chances of doing more cross-examining, Maya Fey harshly demands Lotta to tell the court if she saw Edgeworth shot the man clearly. Lotta says she has, however, Karma sees this as another outburst and the Judge orders the officers to take Phoenix away. Maya however says that she made the outburst, not Nick. Karma doesn't care as he says the verdict is now clear. Say Wrong as Lotta has made another testimony. The Judge agrees and allows Lotta to change her last statement. Maya was taken away from court for the outburst, so it looks like you're on your own here. Karma still hasn't have hopes up though.

  • I saw it as clear as day. The man on the boat was Mr. Edgeworth!

Present the Lake Photo to the court. That wasn't in her testimony. It seems that Lotta's camera took a very high quality photo at the lake, yet it didn't catch their faces. If so, than how did she know it was Edgeworth on that boat? Looks like you're finally making progress, as Lotta will make a new testimony, much to Karma's annoyance.

Lotta's Testimony: How Edgeworth Was Seen

Lotta
Lotta
Lotta's Testimony
- How Edgeworth Was Seen -
  1. Yer right. It was a cold night, and the fog was thick as grits.
  2. So, once I was finished setting up my camera, I got back in the car.
  3. Still, I brought my binoculars with me.
  4. When I heard that noise out on the lake, I looked with my binoculars.
  5. See? No problem!

How Edgeworth Was Seen: Cross-Examination

She brought binoculars? Press her on her 3rd statement. Didn't she say she was looking for shooting stars yesterday? Wouldn't she need a telescope for that? Was the camera really used to catch a meteor shower? Karma objects, saying that the camera is irrelevant to the case, and there will be consequences if you dont find anything useful. The Judge asks if you would like to continue. Say Press further as the camera may be important to most of, if not the entire, case. Lotta will make a new statement.

  • The camera was set up just to take pictures of the meteor shower.

Press her on that statement. Wasn't the lake too foggy for the photo to take the meteor shower? Von Karma says you're confusing the witness, and lets her continue. Present the statement Lotta's Camera. If she was taking pictures of the stars, then why did she point the camera to the lake? She would've pointed the camera upwards. The Judge wants evidence. Choose Show evidence. Present the court Gourdy's Article. It seems she was there to take pictures of Gourdy. She wants proof that Gourdy is what she's really there for. Say I have proof, then Present Lotta's Camera again. Lotta set the camera to respond to loud noise. The pistol made a loud bang, which triggered the camera. And according to the article, Gourdy made a loud noise when it emerged. Lotta finally admits that she was there to see Gourdy. However, it doesn't really change what she saw. The Judge asks Lotta to change her testimony of why she saw Gourdy. Lotta and Karma thinks it still won't change anything, so make sure they are wrong.

Lotta's Testimony: Lotta's New Testimony

Lotta
Lotta
Lotta's Testimony
- Lotta's New Testimony -
  1. Actually, I'm not a research student at a university.
  2. I'm an investigative photographer.
  3. Imagine what a scoop it'd be if I got a picture of that monster.
  4. That's why I was camping out by the lake.
  5. But, that's all I was hiding.
  6. When I heard the "bang", I looked right straight out at that lake.
  7. There wasn't much else to look at, so I just watch that boat the whole time.
  8. Then I saw a flash, near one of the men's hands, and I heard another gunshot.
  9. I was looking right at that boat, the whole time, cross my heart and hope to fry.

Karma objects to this and sees that Lotta's testimony is unchanged and doesn't want to go through another "pointless" cross-examination. Karma is obviously hiding something. Your cross-examination will begin, but The Judge will say this is your last chance.

Lotta's New Testimony: Cross-Examination

On her 7th to last statement, Present the Gourdy Article. Wasn't Lotta scanning the lake for Gourdy, rather than keeping her eye on the boat? She probably wouldn't need binoculars to see a close boat. She would use them for Gourdy. She admits that she didn't give the boat a second thought. She does, however, remind you that you have the photo, the proof. However, you still can't tell who's shooting who. But before Lotta can explain what she did to fix it, Karma objects and tells Lotta she said enough, and to "shut (her) pie-hole", thus ending the cross-examination.

What was Lotta about to say? Phoenix than remembers that yesterday, Gumshoe said she was going to enlarge it. Is this what Karma is hiding? You'll have to Make her show the enlargement, but now it's all or nothing. Lotta agrees. Karma objects, but, lucky for you, is, for once, denied. She shows the enlargement, however you still can't tell who's shooting who. Regardless the Lake Photo will be added to the Court Record. It seems the enlargement has done little to help. It seems the Judge has his verdict. But there is still something not right in the photo. You have a choice to to stop the verdict or not. Choose Object to the enlargement. The Judge will ask you to find the strange part of the photo. You will examine the enlargement. Move the curser to the hand holding the pistol. Then Present it to the court. The Judge will ask if you have proof of what's wrong. Present the Pistol to the court. In the photo, the murderer is shooting the pistol from his left hand, while the pistol has prints from his right, concluding that the man shooting is not Edgeworth.

The Judge praises you with your proof, but there leaves one problem: If Edgeworth didn't shoot him, then who? Only two people were on the boat! Karma wants you to say who? Say the victim himself. Karma objects, an Autopsy Report shows that the pistol was fired a meter away, about three feet. The victim's arm obviously isn't that long, so suicide is out of the question. The Autopsy Report will be updated in your Court Record. The Judge concludes that Edgeworth isn't the shooter, but neither is the victim. He will adjourn the court for today, without a verdict thankfully.

After the trial

Edgeworth still claims that he didn't shoot the victim, and that he wants Phoenix to tell Maya to watch her mouth. Lotta's information seems to have very useful information, so Phoenix writes out Lotta's Deposition, which will be added to the Court Record. Well, the trail is over for today. Time to investigate, but first, let's talk to Maya.

Day two: Investigation

Detention Center

At the Detention Center, you'll meet Maya. Talk to her about all of the available topics. You'll have some good and bad news. The bad news is that she still couldn't reach Mia. The good news is Gumshoe came earlier to tell her they'll let her go after questioning, seeing that was her first offense but, you're going to need bail money. You're going to have to look for a local waterfall. Move to the Gourd Lake Entrance.

Gourd Lake Entrance

There seems to be fewer cops around, but no Gumshoe. Move to the Gourd Lake Public Beach.

You won't see Larry there. Move to the Gourd Lake Woods.

Gourd Lake Woods

You won't see Lotta, but you will see Gumshoe, who says "good show" on today's trail. Talk to Gumshoe:

Tomorrow's trial: Gumshoe says that Karma is bringing in another witness. Remember, in the trial, von Karma says there were two witnesses. Gumshoe can't tell you about that now.

Prosecutor Edgeworth: Edgeworth's fear of earthquakes may have something to do with the DL-6 Incident.

Maya Fey: Gumshoe mentions that he shed a tear when Maya saved the court, while Edgeworth was so grateful, that he decided to pay the bail.

Move back to the Detention Center to pick Maya up, then Move to the Gourd Lake Entrance.

Gourd Lake Entrance (2)

There, you'll face Lotta again, who wants to make it up to you about today's trail. Talk to Lotta:

Making it up: She'll say she'll tell you about what Karma didn't want her to say. Choose Deal. But she'll need information about Gourdy, you tell her it doesn't exist. She wants proof; it looks like you'll have to do some exploring. You may need to find a myth specialist. Move to the Gourd Lake Public Beach.

Gourd Lake Public Beach

There you'll find a big Steel Samurai balloon, and Larry. Talk to him if you want, but you'll won't get any knew information. Move to the Criminal Affairs Dept.

Criminal Affairs Department

You'll see Gumshoe there, Talk to Gumshoe:

The investigation: Gumshoe will say they haven't find any clues yet. He'll say that he'll have another meeting about Edgeworth's Motives.

Gourdy: Gumshoe will think you are crazy, but will agree to help you with some secret weapons.

Secret weapons: He'll give you one of the three weapons to find him: a dog, a fishing pole, and a metal detector. How are those three going to help? Borrow the metal detector. Now let's find that "monster", but you may need a boat first. Move to the Gourd Lake Public Beach, then to the Boat Rental Shop.

Boat Lake Shop

Nobody seems to be here, maybe because of the murder. Suddenly, the Medal Detector goes wild. Maya takes a look in the bushes, and she finds an Air Tank. The valve is broken, and there seems to be wrapped in flags. This could be a clue, so it'll be added to the Court Record. Move back to the Gourd Lake Public Beach.

Gourd Lake Public Beach (2)

Present the Air Tank to Larry. He asks what about it. Answer, Is it yours. He wants to know why he would need it. Answer To inflate something. He'll admit that he used it to try to inflate the Steel Samurai, it didn't go well. Ask more about the tank. He reveals to you that he knew the compressor was broken, so last week he used the air tank to fill it up. It didn't go well: The air tank made a loud bang (sound familiar?), skyrocketed into the, lake taking the Samurai balloon and the flags with it. It landed into the lake. Talk to him about The flying air tank. It took Larry four days to find it, before he finally found it, and guess when he found it? Christmas Eve night! The night of the murder! However, he left before the murder took place, so he didn't know about it. You may not have a new witness, but you did solve the mystery of Gourdy. Move to the Gourdy Lake Woods.

Gourdy Lake Wood (2)

As you face Lotta again, Maya sneezes wasting another roll on Lotta's camera. She made the trigger more sensitive so it would catch Karma snapping his fingers. Talk to Lotta:

Gourdy: Tell her It doesn't exist. She obviously wants proof. Tell her the proof is here. Present the Air Tank to Lotta. You'll explain about Larry's mishap, and that the air tank landed in the lake, and at the same time, a couple was taking the photo catching the tank falling into the lake, looking like the creature. So, Phoenix concludes that Gourdy was actually the Steel Samurai. The explanation hurts poor Lotta.

The information:. She reveal that she hear some cops talking about the other witness, who happens to be the Boat Rental Shop caretaker. He still lives there, so check it out. However, before you go Lotta will give you the second photo of the murder (remember, the photo shot twice). However, it won't be much help, since it only has the lake in it. The Second Photo Lake will be added to the Court Record.

Move to the Boat Rental Shop.

Boat Rental Shop (2)

There still seems to be no one here. Move into the Caretaker's Shack.

Caretaker's Shack

Here you'll meet the caretaker of the shop, who apparently mistakes your for his relatives wanting to take over his job in his "Noodle Shack". Talk to the Caretaker

Boat rental shop: he'll say that younger people wanted to ride his boats, so he ordered some. Present to him your Attorney Badge. He'll figure you out. Phoenix tells him that he and Maya are investigating a murder that took place here. The Caretaker will tell you anything, if you promise to run the "Wet Noodle" (his shop). Tell him you Promise to run the Noodle and he'll say "Good for you Keith"! What? Did he just forget that you're not Keith and Meg?

Present to the Caretaker the Lake Photo and he'll say he has seen it.

Talk to him about what (he) saw. He'll tell you that a few nights ago; he heard two "bangs" and saw two men in the water. One of them fell off. The boat came back and a man walked past by saying something. The Caretaker couldn't remember what he said.

Examine the parrot. It seems he only responds when its name is called. The Parrot will be added to your Court Record. Polly says lots of words if you know the secret word. Talk to the Caretaker about Polly. Maya will ask Polly about the safe. He'll say 1228 much to the Caretaker's annoyance. He'll say Terry was here. The Caretaker describes him that of Gumshoe who apparently told him to go to court tomorrow. Maya asks Polly what you're forgetting. Polly says "DL-6". How does Polly know about the DL-6 Incident? The Caretaker is sleeping, so he can't tell you anything. You automatically head outside. It seems this man know something about the DL-6 Incident. You try to go inside, but he locked it from the inside. You need to talk to Gumshoe about this. Move to the Criminal Affairs Dept..

Criminal Affairs Department (2)

Talk to Gumshoe:

The boat caretaker: It turns out, they tried to get any information about him, but nothing came out.

The DL-6 Incident: Gumshoe would tell you about the DL-6 incident, but he wants proof that it has anything to do about the current case. Present Polly to him. After telling him what the parrot said, Gumshoe will give you permission to go to the Records Room. Move there.

Records Room

There, Maya will find the Record of DL-6. Talk to her about The case summary, and you'll learn much about the incident:

December 28, 2001: Court District No. 3 elevator… the same court the trial is being held at! There was a huge earthquake and it caused many problems. The elevator became stuck and three people were caught inside it. It took five hours to rescue them. With lack of oxygen, two of them were unconscious and one was shot dead in the heart. The victim was Edgeworth's father. Edgeworth witnessed his father's death, so he probably was one of the trapped people. The victim, Gregory Edgeworth was a defense attorney, age 35. He had lost today's court and went to the elevator with his son Miles. From the angle and other evidence, it wasn't a suicide. A pistol was found in the elevator. The pistol shot twice before killing Gregory. Sounds just like the current case. The name of the suspect that Misty Fey arrested was Yanni Yogi. He was the third person in the elevator and could have killed Gregory, but Hammond, the victim of today's case, found him innocent. The suspect, Yanni Yogi, was oxygen deprived and suffered brain damage, losing his memory in the elevator. He disappeared since he was found innocent and couldn't be found to this day. Where could he be now? "Maybe closer then you think" says Phoenix. The DL-6 Case File will be added to the Court Record. Hopefully that's everything you need for the trial tomorrow. That's it for today. You can only cross your fingers now.
