Context sensitive, and its purpose will change depending on the situation.

Move Neutral cpad while pressing attack B button for different attacks:

  • Horizontal Cut: B button
  • Horizontal Cut: L button + Left cpad (or Right cpad) + B button
  • Vertical Cut: L button + B button
  • Vertical Cut: Up cpad + B button
  • Thrust: L button + Up cpad + B button
  • Spin Attack: Hold B button then release. The attack power will increase the longer you hold down B button.
  • Reduced-power Spin Attack: Rotate Neutral cpad in a circle then press B button. This must be done quickly in order to succeed.
  • Jump Attack: L button + A button
  • Roll Attack: Press A button while running.

Use to deflect projectiles and block attacks. If targeting an object, Link can move around while blocking.

If an enemy is Targeted while Link is swimming, the shield can still be used.

  • Use the L-Targeting (Z-Targetting) system to lock on to the nearest object, monster, or person
  • Scroll left through subscreens
  • Center the camera behind Link

While locked on, use B button to attack, or A button to talk.

The Targeting system can be configured on the options menu of the game select screen. In "switch" mode, press L button once to lock on, and again to unlock. In "hold" mode, hold L button to lock on and release to unlock.
