Table of contents

Hi Norby! Please take a look at this diff to understand why I adjusted the changes you made to the C&C3:TW table of contents. The typical format for every link in the ToC is [[Game name/Page name|Page name]]. Thanks very much and keep up the great work! Procyon 22:18, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Once again you're not making the links correctly. If you really don't understand how these guides are laid out, just copy/paste a link from elsewhere on the table and change the page name to what you want (i.e. [[Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3/Glossary|Glossary]] → [[Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3/Allied Structures|Allied Structures]]). I don't know why we have to go around and around on this. You can't just put plaintext into the Table of Contents. Also, if those were going to be pages of each character's combos as your edit summary indicated, they should probably all go on one "Combos" page. If you want to add a link to a Table of Contents it's easy, just do it like this: * [[name of the game/name of the page|name of the page]].

• name of the game is the name of the game (i.e. "Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels")
• name of the page is the name of the page you're creating (i.e. "Combos")

So all together it would look like this: * [[Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels/Combos|Combos]]. Please, please try to understand this simple method of linking to a page, thanks. - najzere 21:12, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Norby, you've got to start asking yourself, every time before you hit the "Save page" button: "Did I do this correctly? Will everything I did look the way I intended it to look. Will it match the look of the page that I inserted it on to." It's not enough to just put words down. If you don't make any effort to make your work consistent with everyone else's, it makes you look very bad. Take more pride in your work, and don't be in such a rush. The site isn't going anywhere, and people will appreciate you more if you take the time to make sure that what you're doing is correct. I don't think you are doing that right now. Use the wiki properly

It's clearly a waste of time trying to give you tips on how to use this wiki since you don't appear to read your talk page and you certainly don't learn from all cleaning up after you people have to do. But here goes anyway.

• Use the "Guide page" button above the edit text box to insert the {{Header Nav}} and {{Footer Nav}} into pages.
• Use another set of "=" in headings that are subheadings (i.e. ==Level 2 heading==, ===Level 3 heading===, etc.)
• Use proper formatting of heading titles. This means the first letter in the heading and proper names are capitalized and nothing else.
• Use the "Show preview" button below the edit text box and right next to the "Save page" button to preview your work instead of making a bunch of edits to one page.
• Most important: read through the links provided to you in your welcome message. Learn how to use this wiki.

Hey, I was just wondering why you bother editing the C&C pages. You spend time on them like you care about them, but then your edits look like this, so I have to wonder. Mainly I'm just talking to myself, since you don't read or respond to your talk page, so I won't bother with more advice on how to edit properly. To me it seems like you would put some effort into not making the guide look like crap if you want to keep adding content to it, but maybe I'm the crazy one. - najzere 23:42, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I thought I'd waste some more of my valuable time trying to get you to adopt good editing habits. So this time, I want to tell you to capitalize the beginnings of sentences and headings. The only appeal I can make to you is that you are making the guide look bad. You clearly like the game and are willing to expend some effort on the guide, so why do you want to make it look like crap at the same time that you're adding to it? All right, that's all for today. By the way I did read these messages and I did follow advices but my computer tried to rebel on me and tried to exterminate those who have red blood. I can't get the Internet to load faster nor my rebelious computer to work.(Noryb989 09:46, 4 February 2009 (UTC))

If you want to create a section which hopefully someone else might edit, just add {{sect-stub}} underneigh the heading. If you want the whole page to be edited by someone else, put {{stub}} above the header nav. It isn't garanteed that someone will edit it, but it might increase your chances. --Melon247 17:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Wow, you made it almost a month before I decided to stop just reverting your improper edits to come waste another plea on your talk page. Okay, so today I'm here to ask you (again) to use the buttons above the edit text box when creating new pages. Specifically, use the "Guide page" button, as this will put the {{Header Nav}} and {{Footer Nav}} into the page for you. This means, in a fair world, that you could prevent others from having to come in after you to add the navigation by hand, simply by PRESSING ONE BUTTON before you start editing. It's not that serious (unfortunately), because someone has to cleanup everything you do, even if you somehow mastered clicking a button. While I'm here I may as well reiterate that you shouldn't put a ==Level 2 Heading== at the top of the page which is identical to the page name. Users know what page they're on already. This is where I would normally ask you to also use the Page preview button, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to identify something out of place even if you used it. Just some advice

Sometimes people can sound a little harsh, but they usually have the best intentions ;) Try looking at other pages for examples, use the Show preview button obsessively, and look around at the buttons on the edit page to see if any of them will help you do what you want to.

I also often will open up another StrategyWiki page in another tab or window (especially a red link so I can look at the formatting that the buttons at the top of a new page's edit box will give me) and look at that for ideas. One example is the ToC, where you can use [[{{subst:BASEPAGENAME}}/Controls|Controls]] (in this case for a Controls page) to format the page links, so you don't have to type out the full page name (especially on some of those C&C games, ie Command & Conquer: Generals - Zero Hour ).

Don't let the admins get under your skin, but don't irritate them too much, either. They can be very helpful if you show a willingness to learn and improve your edits. (this block of too much text added by:)--~Vizeroth (contribs)~-- 22:36, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Control images

Saying you "don't know how to use Wii images" just isn't going to cut it. If you read the Guide, specifically the section on Controls, you would find useful links to all button image templates. However, there are perfectly good examples of using the button templates you need on the very page you are attempting to edit. When you add content to a page, you must make sure you are conforming to the style and presentation being used. Look at the other sections in the page to see how they have been laid out and make your edits correspondingly. Use copy and paste if you have to. SSBB

What is the point of adding a statistics section to all the characters if you're just copy/pasting the same numbers into all of them? Not only that, but they all have extra apostrophes on the end of the speed statistic. These edits are meaningless! - najzere^T 22:26, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Are you saying they all happen to have the same stats? Because if not, you're just putting misinformation on the page. It's not going to help anyone even if the statistics were correct, because they're not compared to anything. One table with all the characters and their statistics on the Characters page would be much more helpful. In the future if you want to create a section with zero information content, use the {{sect-stub}} template. - najzere^T 04:24, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
