Thanks Rocky.  I was already planning on undoing those subpages.  I was trying to fix a table of contents problem by hacking my way into understanding the wiki software.  Can you tell me how to indicate that a page is next in a series?  Right now if you go to the Metroid Prime "Walkthrough" page, you can't find your way to the actual walkthrough!

Pokemon GSC

Hey Rocky, two things.

1)It's ok by me to consider northern dark cave as part of mt. mortar, but please state the link first.

2) to get nighmare, go to the sentry point between goldenrod and the national park, anhd talk to the sentryman, and he gives you a Spearow with mail attached to it, and you have to deliver it to the fat man by route 31, and he gives you nightmare.

  • If you go back to the guard, he'll give you a pp up (or something like that).
  • BEWARE!!! make sure you give the fat man the spearow with the mail on it. if the mail is attached to any other pokemon, YOU WILL LOSE IT!!!

halosonic (Talk)

hey im back. i just signalled to tell you that im uploading mini icons for the pokemon types, and to get them, just say the type, e.g. grass.png. im still uploading them now, so not all might be there yet. and do you know any sites with the attack lists? peace out.

halosonic

This seemed like the best place to put this, so here goes: after I import BP:List of Moves, what should it be named? (And it would require quite a bit of cleanup too, with all the images and links in the page) --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 16:14, 4 April 2007 (CDT)

Bulbapedia

The short answer is no, you cannot copy the stuff from BP. The long answer is, you can take the information, but you have to rewrite the content from scratch. So you can take the fact that the certain move has a certain number, type, contest, power, and accuracy and make a table that contains that information. I'm not sure what Category is, but if you can get that from the game it's ok as well. You just can't copy the table directly. -- Prod (Talk) 16:20, 4 April 2007 (CDT)

Remember that information is free; what isn't is the graphical representation, the words used to describe, and the custom images used. Anything that is made by the company itself, i.e. Nintendo, is theirs and not the people who put it on their website, although they deserve credit for acquiring the images/data. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:56, 4 April 2007 (CDT)

Contributors List

Ok, i think i have you all confused. what i mean is something like a plaque with only the names of the contributors, rather than the edit list. something like a hall of fame for the contributors, if you know what i mean.

Pokemon GSCRSE

hey Rocky, Do you know anywhere where we can get move combos? --Halosonic 14:37, 10 April 2007 (CDT)

Pardon the intrusion Rocky. Halosonic, I would caution you against putting too much Pokémon Move specific information in our walkthroughs. We have a loose partnership with Bulbapedia, and it's better for us to point to their information than to repeat information that their database already contains. As far as StrategyWiki is concerned, we want to place the emphasis on specific walkthroughs for each game. That's where we need the biggest effort at this time. Of course, if move combos interest you, I'm sure that Bulbapedia would appreciate your help on pages like this one. Procyon (Talk) 14:44, 10 April 2007 (CDT)

Renaming images

If you're planning to rename lots of images, I'll make you a sysop so that you can delete the old ones as you go along (rather than having me do it and potentially delete ones you're still working with, or whatever). I'll only do this if you're committed to renaming a lot of images though. What say ye? --DrBob (Talk) 12:49, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

RFA is only for requests. As I'm a bureaucrat, I have the power to decide on-the-spot if someone should become a sysop, and I think you're more than capable. 180 images is an awful lot for me to delete, and there are always more. I'm impressed by your honesty though, and if you want, I'll revoke your sysop status once you're done. ;-) --DrBob (Talk) 12:56, 11 April 2007 (CDT)
Why don't you join me in IRC and find out? :-P --DrBob (Talk) 13:14, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

I don't see anything wrong with it. Unless you've already changed something. -- Prod (Talk) 18:37, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

Sysop

Wow! Are you a sysop now? I ask becaused I noticed your image deletions. Lunar Knight (Talk to me + Contribs) 17:22, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

He truly is :) Congratulations Rocky. Nice job. Procyon (Talk) 20:52, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

Congrats! (Just got back from my vacation) :) --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 12:22, 15 April 2007 (CDT)
P.S. Add your name to StrategyWiki:Administrators. I would've added it, but I thought that you might like adding it yourself. --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 21:24, 15 April 2007 (CDT)

Re. Credits

Hey Rocky, thanks for generating the credits page info. I like the second one better, but I'd rather just have one group for contributors rather than major and minor contributors. Tell me your thoughts. --Halosonic 13:42, 12 April 2007 (CDT)

When the time comes...

Hi Rocky. I had a question for you. It's a long way off (at least a couple of months even if I'm really fast with Red/Blue/FireRed/LeafGreen), but how will you feel about me beginning to transform the G/S/C guide to become more like R/B/Y? The way I've been going about it, I tend to bulldoze over what's present and rebuild it from scratch. Obviously, I would need to alter my approach a little, but the question is how much? I guess what I'm asking is, what's more important to you: to see those pages transformed entirely if it meant making the guide better, or to see the work you established remain as much as possible. And I am in no way trying to imply that your work is bad, or that I could even do a better job. I'm just asking how you would feel, because I want to be sensitive to you. Let me know, thanks ^_^ Procyon (Talk) 16:15, 12 April 2007 (CDT)

I have %s for the encounter rates. I would most likely transform the Encounter tables to look a little more like the ones in the R/B/Y guide, except that instead of R/B/Y it would be morning/noon/night. You know what I mean? I'll try to do a mock up of what I'm talking about. Procyon (Talk) 16:36, 12 April 2007 (CDT)
Like this. That would not be the final design, it's just a concept mock-up, and those numbers are completely made up. But that's the rough idea. Procyon (Talk) 16:56, 12 April 2007 (CDT)
Like I said, that design isn't final, so there are some issues to work out. Crystal actually has different values all together from G/S (e.g. Sentret appears 30% of the time in the morning in G/S, but only 20% of the time in the morning in Crystal), so it will probably need to be done as two seperate tables. But again, I still have to get through the other games first. It's hard to be disciplined and not go back to new games like I've been doing. I'm really going to try to focus my efforts on Red & Blue until it's done. It just takes so much work... Procyon (Talk) 17:56, 12 April 2007 (CDT)

Sprite

The U.S. name is Shaymin and the Jap. name is Sheimi. The names differ because I uploaded the images under their Japanese names, but am using the US.S names. Lunar Knight (Talk to me + Contribs) 17:22, 12 April 2007 (CDT)

IRC/Archive

Hey Rocky, you should come chill in the IRC channel. I'm lonely hahah. Also, you should archive your talk page like I have and some of the other guys (Prod, Proc, etc.) so you don't have a huge TOC and lots of data to load all the time. Remember to leave any "current" threads in case you're going to get a response. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 13:41, 13 April 2007 (CDT)

Ultimate Spiderman consoles:

Uh, check the main page next time: GameCube, PS2, Windows NT, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Mobile. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 13:56, 13 April 2007 (CDT)

Since its the walkthrough and not a movelist/control page, just remove all buttons in reference to what they do. If you don't know what they do, just leave them until more info is added to the guide. Generic descriptions that work for all consoles = the best. It should be a guide about the game and not how to play it on a specific console (although console specific details should be added off to the side). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 14:05, 13 April 2007 (CDT)

PAGESINNS

I did already think that would happen before I asked to enable the value, so why did I ask, then? Here's why: I was thinking of viewing and modifying the code in PAGESINNS or possibly even NUMBEROFARTICLES, but the former seemed more doable, to make a new magic word that would determine the articles in Category:Guides at completion stage 4. It would also allow me to modify the existing PAGESINNS to make it safer from being misused in some way or another. Unfortunately, I can't find the code for these magic words online anywhere, so it's going to be a while until I can get to it, as it requires me to download and scan through MediaWiki 1.9. (PS-Note by me modifying the magic words, I meant Dan or someone else w/ server access, I'm just coming up w/ the new code) --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 15:08, 2 May 2007 (CDT)

Revert summary

I use Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups to do some of my reverting. Apparently there's a but in it right now that causes that. Hopefully, it'll be fixed soon. -- Prod (Talk) 07:14, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

GSC....

Hey Rocky, you still doing GSC walktrough, and if you are, do u want any help in any areas? Halosonic 09:11, 7 May 2007 (CDT)

Re. G/S/C...

how would you be able to generate pages on the menu screen in order to put a separate area for kanto's routes? thankx in advance. Halosonic 11:05, 7 May 2007 (CDT)

RE G/S/C...

That isn't what i meant. what i meant is to see if you could get the shell for the routes in R/B/Y, bring them across to GSC, and we can edit it to suit, since the kanto here is much different, sort of like the route names that are in RBY. Halosonic 11:25, 7 May 2007 (CDT)

G/S/C

ok, you brought across the names, but how would you be able to generate the actual pages to edit (with the red text). if that occurs, i can try to put in the adequate information. thanks alot anyway. Halosonic 13:09, 7 May 2007 (CDT)

Cedricong2

No, that's another fake addition, and he screwed up the tables to boot. I'll revert it, and you handle the big stuff ;) --IsaacGS 13:31, 8 May 2007 (CDT)

HOLD UP!!! (GSC)

Hey Rocky, slow down with the transfers for a moment. the information for most of the stuff is not the same. hold up a bit, unless youre doing some heavy editing. Halosonic 15:26, 10 May 2007 (CDT)

Preemptive warnings

Hey Rocky. I understand your desire to protect the site from vandals, but storing preemptive warnings on the SW database doesn't serve much purpose, and might be better left on your local hard drive until you need to use it. Furthermore, while I again understand your inclination to threaten with prosecution, you know, I know, and Cedricong knows that it's an empty threat. Instead, it will only wreak of immaturity and frustration, and that's exactly what vandals are trying to get when they vandalize. Don't feed into that mentality. The worst thing that you can do to a vandal is ban them with no explanation or discussion at all. That typically leaves them with a diminished sense of satisfaction for their efforts. Procyon (Talk) 13:43, 11 May 2007 (CDT)

Boxes

Thanks for the help earlier Rocky. But that wasn't what i really needed it's more like the boxes for the materia. Also I tried to do the templat and it didn't work.JonathonHin 12:12, 13 May 2007 (CDT)

N64 buttons

Hey Rocky. I saw your attempts to make the N64 buttons, and while they're a good idea, they don't conform to the other buttons that we have. Blendmaster and I tested a number of designs in the past, and we had decided that 24x24 is the best default size for buttons. When you go beyond that, and using something bigger (like File:N64-button-A.png) it creates a large gap above and below the line of text that the image appears on. (It happens with 24x24 too, but far less so.) Furthermore, I take it you're using Paint to create those images. I don't recommend that. You're far better off using a free graphics software package like GiMP (that's what a lot of us use.) When creating a controller button, don't actually create it at the resolution you intend to end up with. It's far better to start out 4 to 8 times bigger, and scale it down when you're done. Scaling it down tends to have a smoothing effect that makes the end result look more polished (provided you use a linear or cubic interpolation effect.) These are some of the techniques I used to make File:NeoGeo-A.png. I started out with a much bigger image, and scaled it down to 24x24 when I was finished. Paint's scaling feature doesn't work very well. Anyway, just some suggestions. Procyon (Talk) 10:10, 19 May 2007 (CDT)

A few other things, the buttons don't quite follow the CamelCase naming used in most button templates, it would be N64-Button-A.png instead of N64-button-A.png, for example. Also, I've noticed that your images lack transparency, please add it in. An easy way to get the images themselves is to get a picture of the controller online and crop out the stuff around the buttons, it gives an accurate representation of what they look like. It might be hard to find a top-down image to get the L and R buttons (I still can't find a good view of the nunchaku for Wii to rip the Z and C buttons). If you want, I could work on getting them for you. --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 13:41, 19 May 2007 (CDT)
When scaling your test image, using GiMP's Cubic interpolation, I end up with: File:Rocky Test Scaled.png. Procyon (Talk) 14:33, 19 May 2007 (CDT)
I Just uploaded these new versions: N64-Button-A.png N64-Button-B.png I think they work well, although the indentation on the A may need to be emphasized a little more. Procyon (Talk) 14:54, 19 May 2007 (CDT)
Hi Rocky, that was a nice attempt, but unfortunately, you can't use a solid color to emphasize indentation on a photographic image. The trick is to play with the brightness levels on the pixels on either side of the indent. So for example, when I had a b b b c where a is the left side of the indentation, and c is the right side. I left b alone completely, but I applied a lightness filter to brighten all of the a's and to darken all of the c's. Anyway, I replaced all of the buttons, so have a look at Category:Nintendo 64 buttons. Procyon (Talk) 15:30, 19 May 2007 (CDT)

A few questions on CoD2 guide

Hi, I'm pretty new here but I've completed work on the Call of Duty 2 guide because it's one of my newest games. Anyway I've done alot of work on it and it's complete apart from the walkthrough. Somebody told me that there was a guide of the month competition and I'm wondering if the CoD2 guide could be entered.

Oh yer, and the walkthrough. That isn't complete yet but it's a guy called Baejung92 who has done it all so far (apart from one lil bit that I did). Do you think I should add bits in or should I wait for him to return back and complete it?? About 2/3 of the walthrough is complete.

If there are any mistakes or pages that could be improved please tell me as I want to make sure it's at the highest possible quality before I move onto another guide.Thanks. Poiuytre 08:36, 26 May 2007 (CDT)
