As you explore the labyrinth, you will randomly encounter battles. Battles are turn based and each turn corresponds to one step on the map. At the start of battle, there is a chance where your party either gains a preemptive strike (one free attack turn) or is blindsided (monsters get one free attack turn). Both your party and the monsters are arranged in a front line and back line. When a front line is eliminated, the back line automatically moves to the front.
At the start of each turn you can pick from the following actions.
- Attack
- Skills
- Defend
- Items
- Switch
- Boost
- Escape
To be effective in battle, you will need to exploit monsters' weaknesses. The first time you fight a monster, you will have to guess at its weakness. If you fought the monster before, you can press to review information about the monster including its resistances and weaknesses.
- Physical attacks
- Cut
- Stab
- Bash
- Elemental attacks
- Fire
- Ice
- Volt
At the end of battle, you are rewarded experience and items. If there were any grimoire chances during battle, you may also get grimoire stones.
