Name[edit]

Why was this page moved to Dogz 2!? Dogz 2 is a totally different game! Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:45, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Ok, now I'm confused. I've seen loads of films on You Tube since i said that and sometimes it's caled Dogz and sometimes it's called Dogz 2. This is wierd. Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 10:44, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

From what I can tell, the Wii and DS versions are both called Petz: Dogz 2. Not sure about the PS2 version. It would be very weird if the games with different names are the same, but the games with the same name are different. -- Prod (Talk) 05:23, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

I asked my mum and she thinks that Dogz 2 is the american version of Dogz or something. But I know that the one i ordered is just called 'Dogz'. If i get it and it is the game I thought it was, I'll probably change the title back to 'Dogz (console)' because not everyone in the world is American!Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:01, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

After a little bit of searching, I can confirm Petz: Dogz 2 is the American name. Dogz (console) doesn't seem correct here, as this is the second Dogz game. The original Dogz came out in 1995 (with ports or remakes? years later), while the second one wasn't until 2007 from what I've read. Also, the first release name should be the title, with alternate names as redirects... right? Adding console to the name will only be needed if the games are very different from each other. Remember: small differences between console and portable doesn't justify two seperate articles on the same game. RobJ1981 22:01, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
confirmed. this is going to be a problem... Procyon (Talk) 04:34, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
This whole naming messes with me, because I remember Dogz 4 being released back in 99. And searching gf, Dogz 5 was released in 02. -- Prod (Talk) 04:39, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

There seems to be a Dogz series that I don't think is anything to do with this game. But the console and portable versions are different. The portable versions are about caring for your dog, but the console versions are simular to The Dog Island and you go around repairing the damage you caused by giving a magic hat to Ivlet (or something like that, I still haven't got the game). But for some reason, on the back of the box I think it says you look after a dog, so either they are completely confused or used the same box as the portable versions. Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 13:46, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

When I get the game, I'll play it for a bit and see if i can write a walkthrough. There's just one thing bothering me... I don't know if there are any version differences between the american and uk versions. If there are (I'll have to do a bit of searching) I think it would be better if the name was changed back to Dogz (console). If there aren't, no one will get confused, and we'll leave it as it is. Does that sound right? Just to say, I'm getting really confused, and I think that Petz:Dogz 2 is different to Dogz (console) because apparently Dogz 2 hasn't been released in the uk yet. So maybe they are different games after all. Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 10:05, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I did a little bit of searching on GameFAQs and Gamespot as well as on Google and this is what I think is going on. The original Dogz game was created for the PC as "Dogz" by Mindscape. They then partnered with Virgin Interactive and PF.Magic to create "Dogz 2" and "Dogz 3." They continued to create "Dogz 4" in 1999. Around the same time, they released "Dogz" for the Game Boy Color. "Dogz 5 was created by Ubisoft in 2002 and eventually released in Europe in 2006.
Another "Dogz" was released for GBA and DS in '04/'05 and '06 respectively. It was released for the PC again in 2006 as "Dogz", except in Australia where it was "Dogz 2006". "Dogz 2" was released for the GBA in '07.
Then, "Petz: Dogz 2" was released for the DS (called "Dogz 2008" in Europe), the PC (US only), PS2 (called "Dogz" in Europe), and Wii (called "Dogz" in Europe). There are a few other spin-offs that don't seem to add to any confusion.
It looks to me like the GBC, GBA, and DS games (called "Dogz") are very similar but not necessarily the same. "Dogz (1995)" through "Dogz 5" are also unique games it seems. "Dogz 2" for GBA seems to be different than those of the PC. "Dogz" for the PC is also different from the original "Dogz (1995)" for the PC. I'm pretty sure "Petz: Dogz 2" is the same for all systems it was released on (DS, Wii, PS2, and PC).
My suggestion is to call this game "Petz: Dogz 2" because it was released in the US first, and it seems to avoid the most confusion. We'll definitely want to create some kind of disambig page for "Petz", because this naming problem is just for Dogz. Don't forget we also have to deal with Catz, Monkeyz, Bunnyz, Hampsterz, and Horsez, as well as all those compilations.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 14:13, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Nice work figuring out the history behind that (and I'd suggest putting that all on the Category:Dogz page). The disambig would go there as well. I would suggest treating these other games (Catz/Dogz) like the Pokémon Red and Blue games. If they're the same game just with different characters, they should be merged. However, I'm slightly hesitant in that respect since naming in these games is already such a mess. -- Prod (Talk) 05:38, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Merge[edit]

How do you merge pages? Because I've got catz as well now and it's supposed to be exactly the same as Dogz. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 12:20, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Is that really how we want to deal with this? If so, and I'm fine with it if that'll be easier than keeping them separate, we might want to consider adding Petz: Horsez 2 to that as well. And then Bunnyz and Monkeyz if they come out (I think Dogz, Catz, and Horsez are the only ones right now). It might be easier to keep all the games separate. Then again, it might not. I really don't know.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 15:49, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Oops, I missed Petz: Hamsterz 2 as well.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 15:51, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
It could be done the same as Pokemon Red vs. Pokemon Gold. Separate front pages, but common guide. It all depends on how similar the games are. I would assume that the "levels" are somewhat different (can't fit a horse in a hamster cage), but are there any significant gameplay differences? -- Prod (Talk) 17:09, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Dogz and Catz are totally different to Horsez (I should amagine, because I can't really imaging a load of horses taking on a wolf... the wolf wouldn't stand a chance) but Catz and Dogz are exactly the same. The characters even have the same names except one has dogs and the other has cats. So if we kept them apart I don't know how I wuld write a walkthrough for the other one. Hamsterz and Horsez and all that lot are different though (Hamsterz 2 isn't out on Wii, i don't think) so the only simular ones are Dogz and Catz. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 18:20, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I see. I didn't realize they were that closely related. I trust your judgment!--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 22:24, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

I think Prod or someone suggested changing the page name to Petz: Catz 2 and Dogz 2. I think we should do this because someone might be looking for Catz 2 and not realise that it is the same as Dogz 2. I'll wait untill it it decided before I start on the walkthrough, or we'll have to move lots of pages.Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:18, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I'll move the main page to Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2, and see if I can move the walkthrough pages I've already created. And also, although I haven't got it, Bunnyz is out in the UK. I remember seeing it in WHSmiths once. Does that mean it's not out in America? --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 15:02, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I moved the page but I can't get the Table of Contents to appear at the bottom of the page. Could someone sort this out? --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 15:11, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Also, does this still come under the category 'Dogz' now that it's dogz and catz? --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 09:44, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

It might be better to make a Category:Petz instead for all of those games in the series. What does everyone else think?--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 12:09, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
So, I should check on that next time I comment... It can go under both Dogz and Catz, I guess.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 12:10, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

What does this page still need as it is still apparently a Stub? Sorry I'm just asking cos I want to know (I hate seeing that Stub template) --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 15:57, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Lone to Ione[edit]

Oh Drat, I just found out that yoour mother in this game is actually called Ione. I originally thought she was called Lone, probably because capital Is in the game look like lower case Ls. I could use some help changing Lone to Ione throughout the guide. --Melon247, The Dog's Life Expert 11:22, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Copy edit[edit]

I'm going to try and get this guide to featured status like I did with Dog's Life. So, that means I'll need other user's help by doing copyediting. Of course, I need to add more info on the bugs and fish and enemies and such, and I also need to get a video camera. --Melon247 10:34, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

What is the definitian of a Stage 4 guide? I've looked in the strategywiki guide at the completion stages bit but it doesn't really say much about it. --Melon247 17:45, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Guides at completion stage 4 has an intro with a description of the category. - najzere 17:46, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Criware games[edit]

Dogz seems to be by Criware aswell but I'm not sure if that's because of what game it is or because it's on PS2. --Melon247 17:12, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

The Dog Island[edit]

I think all references to The Dog Island should be removed except as part of the description on the main page. It's unnecessary to note on every page the similarities between the two games, and if someone hasn't played the other game, they wouldn't really care. - najzere 17:38, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess you're right. --Melon247 17:40, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Current Issues[edit]

I thought I'd make a table of current issues like for Dog's Life, to help with cleanup in the guide.

Terms/usages needing consistency
Current usages New Consistency Status
Breed names remove apart from in the character page
Gertrude (gender) female
The Dog Island links remove apart from on main page Done
References add references to guide pages with version differences
Character Page Links Links affected by subpaging link to the new pages

If anyone finds any more, add them or something. --Melon247 10:23, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I've fixed a couple of those items in the pages I've copyedited so far, but you might want to consider sub-paging some of the longer walkthrough pages. I didn't tag any of them with the subpage template because I'm not sure of what will work best with how the game is laid out. --~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 22:24, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
I sub-pages some of the pages, but I think we should leave Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2/Make a Magic Shield as it is, so then if someone comes looking for, say, how to find the Earth Crystle, they can see where to find it. Because many of the links on the character page would be affected by this I put to change them in the list of current issues.--Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! Box art[edit]

I would like to recommend we change the box art to reflect the same name as the guide. In other words, the fact that it says "Dogz" on the box art and the guide name is "Petz: Dogz 2" is very confusing. I understand that the game is called "Dogz" in the UK, which is where this box art comes from. However, changing the box art would be more consistent and less confusing. Plus, we can explain that the game is called Dogz in the UK in the first paragraph on the main guide page. What do you think?--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 15:32, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Ok, fine. Have the Dogz cover further down the page in the Gallery, though. Don't worry; I'll find an image and sort it out. --Melon247 16:52, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Absolutely. For the prominent infobox picture, it should make the title of the guide. Any other box artwork should fit in a gallery. I'm not trying to downplay the UK side of things, just trying to make things more consistent and less confusing.--DukeRuckleyTalk | Contribs 16:55, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorting the Confusion[edit]

I'm not sure if people are still confused by the whole Petz thing or not. So, I'll try and make it a little clearer.

Because this game is called dogz in the uk, Dogz and Catz is the pc version of it. I'm pointing this out because a few days ago naj was saying that two guides claim to be the PC verison on this game.

As this game is called Petz: Dogz 2 in the US, in that country Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2 (PC) is the pc version. And Dogz and Catz comes before it.

I hope I made things a little simpler and not worse. --Melon247 19:03, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
