In 2000 Vivendi acquired Universal (the major motion picture company) by purchasing Seagram (the liquor company). Vivendi used the acquisition to produce a number of games utilizing the IP of the film company. In 2004, Vivendi sold off 80% of the film company, but continued to use the Universal name until 2006.
In 2003 this division of Vivendi Universal was renamed Vivendi Universal Games. Now they are simply part of Vivendi Games.
