Koopa Kid, Toad, and Boo are not playable in Story Mode (similar to Mario Party 3 where Daisy and Waluigi aren't playable in said game's Story Mode and only Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong). Koopa Kid serves as the opponent for all stages and Toad is the player's CPU partner for a 2 vs. 2 minigame (via the VS. Spaces) if there are two Koopa Kids remaining. The only playable characters in Story Mode are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, and Yoshi. There is no more Donkey Kong. And he doesn't return to the playable character roster until Mario Party 10, Star Rush, Super, and Superstars.
