Samurai Shodown
The Samurai Showdown characters have a slightly different control scheme. For all characters' normal attacks, buttons A, B, and C serve as Slash attacks and D serves as Kick. This also holds true for Asura's, Nakoruru's, and Shiki's special moves. However, for Haohmaru's and Genjuro's special moves, A and C serve as Slash, and B and D serve as Kick.

Last Blade
A and C for Slash serve as Slash attacks for the Last Blade characters (B and D remains Kick). They represent the Power Mode style of play, so light Slashes can't be chained into hard Slashes. Unlike Last Blade, Slashes don't do block damage. All characters except Keiichiro have lost their unblockable BC attack. All characters except Akari can perform a Pounce Attack on downed opponents by pressing +
Counter moves known as Repels are now a special move. They stun opponent and leave them vulnerable to counter attack. To perform a repel, press + to counter high and mid-level attacks, including special and super moves. Press + to counter low attacks. Once performed successfully, press to counterattack the opponent. Kaede and Akari can also perform Repels in mid-air. They knock down without doing any damage. Air Repels can work against special moves, whether performed on the ground or in mid-air.
