*I suggest you stay close to water, for drinking and also a place to retreat from aggressive animals that cant swim. Feel free to rummage through abandond houses, anthing that is not bolted down is fair game! Search for mines with Iron Ore, this is critical for any homestead.  Also here is a list of animals you may run into:

Client Installation

Wurm is a Java application so it will run on any system as long as you have Java. If you are using a laptop it is highly reccomended that you use a mouse instead of a touchpad. This is because Wurm is a lot of point and click.

Ingame Tutorial

Covers everything you need to know, takes about 30 min to complete first time. I have been playing the game for years and I still learn things when I go through the tutorial. It is packed with information, so just do the best you can and try to at least skim everything. It may help to physically take a few notes.

Joining a Village

A popular way to enjoy wurm with a group. check forums or ask in kingdom chat.

Solo Play

So you are interested in surviving in the wilderness alone? Wonderful! Here are a few pearls of wisdom to help you get on your feet.

  • Build up your skills- stay near the starting town for your first few hours. Here you can build up your strength by Digging Clay or Tar, Mining rock, and woodcutting. Also, build up your Mind and Body Control skill with carpentry and cooking, by building carts and cooking foraged items.
  • You will survive much longer on your own if you can first build up the following skills to level 5:
    • Body Strength
    • Body Control
    • Digging
    • Foraging
    • Mining
    • Woodcutting
    • Cooking
    • Carpentry
  • Now you are ready to embark on your journey! By now you should have crafted the following:
    • a mallet
    • a small bucket
    • 5-10 large and small nails
    • a door lock
    • a small anvil
    • 5-10 healing covers
    • 2 clay jars and 2 clay bowls
    • maybe a small cart too, depending on how fast you would like to move.
  • I suggest you stay close to water, for drinking and also a place to retreat from aggressive animals that cant swim. Feel free to rummage through abandond houses, anthing that is not bolted down is fair game! Search for mines with Iron Ore, this is critical for any homestead. Also here is a list of animals you may run into:
    • Dogs, Wildcats and Deer (easiest practice on these first)
    • Mountain Lions, Black Wolves, and Cave Bugs (more difficult, try one at a time)
    • Goblins and Huge Spiders Unicorns and Crocodiles (Very Hard)
  • If [when] you die [it happens!], you will respawn at the village you belong to, or the starting point. Any of your starting equipment will still be in your inventory. However, any equipment you aquired on your own will be on your corpse. If you are not on a PVP server, only you can loot your corpse, so you do not have to rush to retrieve your items. Some of your skills will be lowered at random, every time you die.
  • Good Luck!
  • Have Fun!
