Alpine Ski is a skiing arcade game which was put out by Taito Corporation in 1982; it runs on Taito's SJ System hardware, and the player must use a two-way joystick to guide a skier through a downhill course, slalom course and jump competition (while avoiding snowmobiles, CPU-controlled rivals and various other obstacles), with a single button to make him increase his speed. If the player manages to complete the initial downhill course, they will be given an opportunity to try their luck on the slalom course - and they must try not to knock over any of the poles on this course, as doing so will result in a deduction of 100 points. If the player manages to complete the slalom course, they will be given an opportunity to try their luck on the jump competition; by watching the radar at the top of the screen, it is possible for them to maximise the distance of their jumps for extra points (their playing time, which can initially start out at either 1:00, 1:30, 2:00 or 2:30 depending on how the cabinet is set, shall also be extended when they manage to reach 10000 points, and every 5000 points after that, by default).
