Controls[edit]

Note: The controls presented here uses icons from Famicom version, but are also applicable to arcade version unless otherwise specified.

  • Neutral dpad: Move your fighter in all directions.
  • A button: Press to make your fighter shoot bullets.
  • B button: With wings equipped, press to remove your wings. Without wings, press to lower your fighter to ground level for a few seconds. At ground level your fighter will not be hit by aerial enemies or bullets, but may run into ground obstacles which you will normally fly over.
  • Start button: Start a new game or pause the action mid-game.
  • Select button: Choose game mode before starting, and change wings when pausing.

Story[edit]

You are the pilot controlling the prototype fighter FX-1. Developed by the space defender force, this fighter is able to equip different sub-weapon systems called Wings for multiple combat purposes. On the day of test flight, the FX-1 gives an excellent test result. However, the FX-1 goes back to the base, only finding it destroyed by somebody, and many wings are lost, and the only message of the name Gobunasu. In order to get the wings back, the FX-1 starts the fight against the mysterious Gobunasu.

Wings[edit]

Arcade version[edit]

Eight different wings are available throughout the game. They appear on a two-craft transport. You must shoot both crafts to release the wing which will float down to your fighter. Touch the wing to attach it to your craft.

  1. A-WING: The Anti-Wing can fire backwards.
  2. C-WING: The Cannon-Wing adds fast-firing forward shots.
  3. G-WING: The Ground-Wing fires down at the ground.
  4. J-WING: The Jump-Wing fires off three beams, the center one of which explodes. In Famicom version this is the only wing able to damage totally enclosed enemies, using the center explosion.
  5. M-WING: The Multiple-Wing (Multi-Wing in Famicom) adds side shots which change directions all the time.
  6. S-WING: The Side-Wing adds left and right attack cannon.
  7. V-WING: The Varrier-Wing (Van-Wing in Famicom) protects the ship by firing five short range blasts. In the arcade version, the name has been changed from "Barrier" in order to distinguish between the "B" (which means "Battle") in the game's title.
  8. W-WING: The Wide-Wing fires five long-range radial beams.


Famicom version[edit]

In the Famicom version, enemies do not exist on the ground, and the G-WING is removed. Instead, some additional wings are added. Every four stages, player must choose from one of the ten wings (except the hidden wings) and start the stage.

  1. D-WING: The Dyna-Wing fires a short-range, forward flying attack that destroys enemy bullets.
  2. F-WING: The Fire-Wing fires a narrow but extremely powerful jet of flame.
  3. H-WING: The Hammer-Wing initiates a set of balls which rotate about the ship, shielding it from attack. Also shoots slow black balls forward.

Hidden wings[edit]

There are some wings which can only be found by destroying certain objects.

  1. SS-WING: The Staring-Silver-Wing combines the rotating balls from Hammer-Wing with two big green orbs capable of piercing enemies and bullets. It is known as Ring Lasers.
  2. OB-WING: The Oct-Blaster-Wing shoots black balls in eight directions. It is known as Multi Hammer.
  3. AH-WING: The Aurora-Harrier-Wing shoots wide waves in four directions, piercing enemies and bullets. It is known as X-Ray.
