Gameplay[edit]

Beat Saber is a virtual reality rhythm game where the player takes 2 different colored lightsaber-like swords and slices at blocks that correspond to those colors while ducking and dodging walls that are flying at the player. There are arrows on the blocks that indicate the direction you should slice. There are over 27 songs in the original game, and there are many new songs in purchasable DLC's including songs from Green Day and Imagine Dragons. There are 3 main modes of play: Campaign, Solo, and Party.

Scoring[edit]

Your score in Beat Saber increases whenever you hit a block correctly, and decreases whenever your head comes in contact with a wall, or when you hit a mine with your saber. You get more points if you hit the block in the center, and you get extra points for following through on each slice. If you don't make a single mistake during the song, FC (full combo) is seen to the right of your score.

Campaign[edit]

The campaign is a series of levels where you complete one level after another, with different paths and dead ends. Each level has a certain objective to reach. In some levels, you must be reach a certain score, or reach a certain special objective, such as maximum hand movement, minimum hand movement, max amount of mistakes, minimum amount of mistakes, etc.

Solo and Party[edit]

In Solo and Party mode, you have access to all the songs in OST Vol 1, OST Vol 2, OST Vol 3, Extras, and a Camellia song pack (plus whatever DLC's you may have purchased). You can play any songs from these volumes and compare your scores on scoreboards (Worldwide on Solo and a Local scoreboard on Party). There are 5 different difficulties for every song, ranging from easy to expert+, and 4 different modes of play, Two Saber, One Saber, No Arrows, and 90°. In the Windows and Oculus versions, there is a 360° mode.

Two Saber[edit]

In the Two Saber mode, the player wields two differently colored lightsabers and strikes at blocks with corresponding colors while dodging walls and avoiding bombs (also known as mines). This is by far the easiest mode.

One Saber[edit]

In the One Saber mode, the rules are the same from Two Saber, except you only have one lightsaber. This is the second hardest mode (depending on the difficulty you select).

No Arrows[edit]

In the No Arrows mode, the rules are the same from the two previous modes, except the boxes have no arrows on them so you can slice any way you wish. This might seem simple, but this is in fact the hardest mode because the colors constantly switch sides. This means that you need to cross your arms, which might be new during the game as this tactic is not used heavily in any other mode.

90°[edit]

In 90° mode, the player has two lightsabers and acts the same as in Two Saber with a slight twist. The blocks and obstacles you need to hit and avoid come from a 90° angle in front of you.

360°[edit]

360° mode is the same as 90° mode, except that blocks and obstacles come from all directions. 360° mode is not available on Playstation versions of the game.
