Cobra: The Arcade is a first-person shooter arcade game, which was released by Namco in 2004 as a conversion kit for existing cabinets of Time Crisis 3; it runs on Namco System 246 hardware, and is based upon the manga series Space Adventure Cobra by the then-49-year-old Buichi Terasawa. The players must use two lightguns modelled on the Psychogun (Cobra's signature weapon in the manga that takes the place of his left hand) to kill enemies (including the manga's major antagonists, Crystal Bowie, Gypsy Doc, Cyber Wolf, Naoko Kōda, Akemi Sakuma, Turvage, Ironhead, Sandra, Zoros and Babel) across four stories - and at the end of a run, they shall receive "Psycho Points" based on their performance, which they can use to power up and customise their Psychoguns. The players' position will also be saved to a "Psychogun Card" which is dispensed by the cabinet, much like the Maximum Tuning Memory Cards in Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune, so they do not have to restart the game from the beginning the next time they play; furthermore, after they clear each story, not only will they unlock the next one (or finish the game in the last one), but they will also unlock a new mode of play.
