The World of Assassination Trilogy fits a lot of detail and variety into a small number of extremely dense levels, but even after one becomes familiar with the locations and eliminated countless targets with a myriad of methods, there are still many bonus missions and even user-created content to take on. This page gives an overview of the many game modes the trilogy offers.

Story Campaign[edit]

Spanning 3 games, these main missions tell the story of Agent 47 and the ICA caught in a deadly struggle between a secret cabal of elites asserting their global control and a renegade terrorist that opposes them, as 47 and his handler, Diana Burnwood, attempt to unravel 47's mysterious past.

Sarajevo Six[edit]

A PS4 exclusive HITMAN 1 bonus campaign that has not made a return since. Agent 47 hunts down the members of an elite mercenary squad responsible for war crimes.

Patient Zero[edit]

A bonus campaign first included in HITMAN GOTY edition, these missions take place in revamped versions of locations from HITMAN 1. A routine contract results in a cult releasing a deadly virus, forcing Agent 47 to travel the world and contain it before the virus spreads out of control.

Bonus Missions/Special Assignments[edit]

These missions have no story significance but change up familiar locations.

Escalation Contracts[edit]

Escalation contracts ignore any pretense of a story and just present a series of thematic challenges, usually requiring unorthodox methods of killing targets or imposing restrictions that must be creatively circumvented. Unlike in normal missions, no saving is allowed.

Escalation contracts come in 3 to 5 levels. As the name implies, each completed level introduces new complications that raise the difficulty. Only the highest unlocked level of the escalation contract is playable, but you can reset your progress on each contract to replay from the first level.

Elusive Targets[edit]

Elusive targets are special missions that are only available for a limited window after which they can no longer be accessed. These online events introduce special targets that aren't marked red by Instinct, forcing you to rely on the mission briefing and observing NPC behavior to identify the target.

Additionally, the penalty for mistakes are much stronger when taking on an elusive target. No saving is allowed, and if you die, you cannot retry the mission. Once any mission objective is achieved, you also lose the ability to retry. You're free to experiment prior to that, so much of this mission will be formulating the perfect assassination plan, before flawlessly executing it in one try.

As elusive targets are content designed to be playable for a very short time, they will not be covered in this guide.

Contracts Mode[edit]

Returning from Absolution is the ability to create your own contracts, share them with the world, and play contracts from other players. To create a contract, you must play through the level as normal and mark the mission targets you want while in Instinct. After that, eliminate them and exit the level. The weapons and disguise you use when eliminating mission targets are recorded and can be set as optional objectives. You can also set additional restrictions if your playthrough meets those restrictions, such as a time limit.
