You will need very little help in getting started as the game is doing an admirable job of holding your hand pretty much the whole way through. It's not that it's an extremely easy game, it's more the fact that you will feel never ever lost. The next point to do or to go to is always made very clear with plenty of reminders.

That being said here are a few tips and tricks to make your life easier.

  • Finish the game first! This cannot be stressed enough. While the game throws hundreds of distractions at you, there are many reasons to simply finish the game before exploring. You will only get the last power at the end of the game and until then there is always the risk that you are suddenly blocked. To avoid this, simply sit back, go where you're told, fight through 15 chapters of the story and 15 missions, watch the credits and you are good to go.
  • Open up any train stations you come across as soon as you can. It will make getting around Lego City that much easier.
  • As long as you're playing through the story, if you ever do get lost, look at your Gamepad. You should always see your destination marked and if you are in a car, the way there will be highlighted. If you wait a few moments, someone will usually call you to remind you of your current goal.
  • If you see a dynamite distributor, always grab one. If something is close by, a green arrow will point to it, if not, the miner will hold on to the dynamite even if you switch disguises. Simply cycle through to the miner from time to time and see if an arrow pops up.
  • Saving Studs is less important in this game than others as most Characters are somewhat cheaper. Still save your money, and make your to grab the x2, x4 and x6 Red Bricks, all of which are available in their Missions without going back on Free Play. This way you should easily have 20M - 30M saved by the time the game is over.
  • When exploring, destroy everything! Something can be hidden under any rock, so make sure you take everything apart.
  • Take the taxi if you're not in the mood to drive to your destination. Your taxi driver thankfully follows the road rules well. It won't work if you decide to be the driver!
  • If you find a building area, make sure you reach a minimum requirement of bricks to build something that's part of the story or is suppose to be a part of the attraction.
  • Use the disguises to unlock or overcome obstacles in your path. This can be done through out the city and missions when you first started out.
  • Want to watch the cutscenes again? Go into your headquarters' brief room and interact with the camera slide to see it for your own pleasure.
