Mahjong was the fifth game released for the Famicom by Nintendo. It is the earliest conversion of the popular Chinese game that involves tiles that contain various symbols or artwork. It was the third best selling Famicom game released during 1983 and 1984, selling approximately 2,130,000 copies in its lifetime. It was also released in the arcade as Vs. Mahjong as part of Nintendo's Vs. arcade system. It was never published outside of Japan.
