Before you attempt to move on with your mission, it's a good idea to locate and visit all three of the towns in Dezo. There's nothing stopping you from doing so, and this will allow you to obtain all the information necessary to proceed, as well as do quite a bit of shopping and update your equipment. Being able to teleport from one town to another will also save you quite a lot of traveling.

Each town can only be reached by finding the correct exit from Skure, and it's not possible to visit one town from another without teleporting or going back through Skure. Unfortunately, you will not be able to communicate with the natives of Dezo unless you are wearing the right equipment.

How to speak to Dezoians

If you try to speak with Dezoians without any special preparation, you will not be able to understand each other, and the conversation will go nowhere. You may have discovered the Magic Cap in Skure, and realized that if you wear it, you can speak with the cats that you find there. You can wear the Magic Cap and speak to the Dezoians as well, but the results will be less than ideal. The Dezoians will be hostile towards you and charge twice as much as usual. Instead, it is the unusually spelled Mogic Cap that Rolf should wear if you want to be on friendlier terms with the Dezoians. Remember that the Mogic Cap is not great defensively, and you should switch to something better as soon as you set foot outside of a town.

Zosa[edit]

To reach Zosa from the launch pad in Skure, head over to staircase B. Then head up to staircase K, down and over to staircase P, and then all the way up and to the right to the East staircase. Once you arrive on the surface, head east as far as you can, and then head north a bit to reach Zosa.

Aukba[edit]

To reach Aukba from the launch pad in Skure, first head up to staircase A. Down below, head to the right and take staircase I, then follow the long path from I to D. Once you climb staircase D, the North staircase will be to your right. Once on the surface, you can find Aukba by travelling all the way north, until you find the town nestled between the woods and mountains to the east.

Ryuon[edit]

To reach Ryuon from the launch pad in Skure, walk all the way around to staircase C. Once below, walk straight to your right to staircase O, then follow the path from O to S. When you climb up staircase S, the South exit will be the next set of stairs immediately to your right. Once on the surface, head south until you can navigate your way through a mountain pass to the east. Continue traveling east until you reach the town.

Note that Ryuon is the only town on Dezo that sells Trimates, so the ability to teleport here is vital if you like to fill your party's inventory with these health restoring drinks.

Shopping strategy[edit]

With so many towns, and so much access to new and better equipment, it can be a bit overwhelming to know what to buy, especially when the items are so expensive. Hopefully in the process of clearing each dam and making your way through Skure, you've accumulated a little war chest of Meseta. Without a good shopping strategy, it's easy to blow through your savings inefficiently. Below is a list of items you should consider buying for each character:

  • Rolf: Laconic Sword (Ryuon), Laconia Chest (Ryuon), Garda Boots (Ryuon)
  • Rudo: Pulse Vulcan (Zosa), Laconish (Zosa or Ryuon), Laconiamet (Zosa), Garda Boots (Ryuon)
  • Amy: Laconia Emel x2 (Zosa or Ryuon), Hirza Boots (Aukba)
  • Hugh: Laconia Mace x2 (Aukba), Laconiamet (Zosa), Garda Boots (Ryuon)
  • Anna: AC Slasher x2 (Zosa or Aukba), Laconia Cape (Zosa or Aukba), Shune Boots (Zosa)
  • Kain: Laconia Mace x2 (Aukba), Laconish (Zosa or Ryuon), Garda Boots (Ryuon)
  • Shir: Shune Boots (Zosa)

Equipment bugs[edit]

Note that there are a few bugs in Phantasy Star II when it comes to equipment at this stage of the game. In the Japanese version of the game, the Laconian Dagger's stats are a +45 Attack, and a +7 Defense, which would make them a much more worthwhile purchase for Shir than the stats they are given in the American version. Additionally, the Laconiamet was intended for Rolf's and Kain's use, but instead is only available to Rudo and Hugh, who also have access to Laconia Gear.

Why Shir becomes a problem on Dezo[edit]

If you like to have Shir in your party, be careful when you go shopping. If she decides to pull one of her disappearing acts when you're in a store, you'll have to return all the way back to Paseo to retrieve her and the item she stole. The fastest way to do this without inconveniencing yourself too much, is to save your game in the current town, teleport to Skure, fly back to Mota, get Shir from your home, and then cast Ryuka or use a Telepipe to return to the town you just saved your game in.
