Pokémon Stadium 2 offers numerous modes of play, many of which are similar to those of the original game.

After verifying the number of controls and Game Boy Pokémon games attached after pressing START on the title screen, you will see three Pokémon, each representing a different selection. To the left (Marill) is Battle Now, for those who want to battle right away. To the right (Sentrett) is Event Battle, a multiplayer option. In the center (Slowking) is White City, where most of the game's events are held.

White City's Modes of Play[edit]

White City. The Stadium is highlighted.
  • Stadium - Located in the center of White City. There are four different cups to participate in:
Poké Cup - Lv. 50 - 55; The Stadium's main tournament
Prime Cup - Lv. 1 - 100
Little Cup - Lv. 5; A tournament for young Pokémon
Challange Cup - You will be given a selected team of Pokémon to test your knowledge.
  • Pokémon Academy - You can learn all there is to know about Pokémon in this area. It is divided into two sections: Classroom and Library. In the Classroom, you will listen to (read in this case) lectures, take tests and battle classmates to get to the top of your class. The Library acts as a reference for all Pokémon related data. You can research items, Pokémon, moves, type match-ups, controls, and eggs. It is located east of the Stadium.
  • Free Battle - Located NorthEast of the Stadium. It is what it says.
  • Mini-Games - Here, you can play various mini-games, take part in Pokémon quizzes or enter a championship for one of the two. It is located north of the Stadium.
  • Gym Leader Castle - Here, you will battle Gym Leaders from the Game Boy Pokémon Game and their trainers. It runs on the same concept as the castle of the original game. It is located NorthWest of the Stadium.
  • Pokémon Lab - If you have a Save File on your Game Boy Pokémon game, then you can attach it to your Transfer Pak and review data from the game in this area. Here, you can trade Pokémon with other players, study Pokémon with a Hi-Def Pokédex , organize your boxes, and pick up Mystery Gifts to put in the game.
  • My Room - If you have a Save File on your Game Boy Pokémon game, then you can attach it to your Transfer Pak and decorate your room (from your house in New Bark Town) in this area. It should be interesting viewing your room in 3-D.
  • GB Tower - If you have a Game Boy Pokémon game, then you can attach it to your Transfer Pack and play that game on your Television with this option.
