 After Bowser gives his little speech, run around him in circles until he stops. Walk up to his tail and press B (A on the DS) to grab on. Rotate the control stick (or control pad/touch screen on the DS) to swing him around. When you think he's aimed at a bomb, press B (A on the DS) to let go. If Bowser hits a bomb, you win, and you get the key to the basement! If not, repeat until he hits a bomb.

-In the DS version, there is a star switch near the pipe at the end. Press it to make a star appear on the first pink platform. Simply run down the stairs and do a series of long jumps to get it. Also, there is an item box in the beginning, which a character can use to gain their respective power. (Having Mario get his balloon power can allow you to float all the way to the pink platforms, therefore cutting off a huge chunk of the stage.)
