Expand and add my recommendation which should be easy to understand.
(Although I did confirm it's on the Wii U VC, I decide to save myself the headache and perhaps later on expand the table.)

Wii U VC: It's basically the same as the classic controller with the {{wiiu|ZL}} and {{wiiu|ZR}} on the backs instead of the top middle. In addition, you're allowed to configure the controls with the exception of the {{wiiu|neutral|dpad}}. If it really helps, follow the example of The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker with the button settings following a similar layout and perhaps it's best to put the map on {{wiiu|minus}} since the Dpad can't be used.
Wii U VC configuration: It's basically the same as the classic controller with the {{wiiu|ZL}} and {{wiiu|ZR}} on the backs instead of the top middle. In addition, you're allowed to configure the controls with the exception of the {{wiiu|neutral|dpad}}. There's the option menu by touching the Wii U Gamepad screen or the {{wiiu|r}}.

The best recommendation is basic terms follows like this:
*ZL for targeting.
*ZR for blocking normal and range attacks.
*L for C up.
*R for C down.
*Y for C left.
*X for C right.
*Minus for map.
*A for action.
*B for sword attack.
*Left stick for control stick.
*Right stick for the C buttons.
*Start as a pause button.
If it works, then use this as a template for many other games to make it easier for people who are used to the basics of playing Zelda games as it normally intended.
