Thomas the Tank Engine is a series of four games, released by Alternative Software and THQ (the first two were developed by Enigma Variations and PeakStar Software, and the last one was developed by Spidersoft) between 1990 and 1995; they are based on the Railway Series by the Reverend WV Awdry (1911-1997), as well as the Britt Allcroft Company's television series, that it became the basis for in 1984, Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. The Amiga versions of the first and second titles were also later rereleased in a compilation (entitled Thomas the Tank Engine: The Collection) in 1994.
- Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends (Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, MS-DOS, 1990): The inceptive title in the series was developed by Enigma Variations for Alternative Software (and achieved notoriety for being impossible to complete on "normal" difficulty).
- Thomas the Tank Engine 2 (Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, MS-DOS, 1993): The second title in the series was developed up three years after the original by PeakStar Software for Alternative Software (and was based on the story Thomas's Big Race); there were eight characters and two players could play it simultaneously.
- Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends (Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, 1993): The third and penultimate title in this series was developed by THQ in the same year as its precursor, and was a collection of minigames; a NES version was also planned, but never released.
- Thomas the Tank Engine Pinball (Amiga CD32, 1995): The fourth and last title in this series was developed by Spidersoft for Alternative Software two years after the third one, and was a virtual pinball table with a Thomas the Tank Engine theme; this was one of Alternative Software's last titles.
