Burning Force is a three-dimensional shooter arcade game that was released by Namco in 1989 only in Japan. It runs on Namco System 2 hardware, and was later converted to the Sega Genesis in 1990. Its main character, Hiromi Tengenji, also made an appearance (along with Taizo Hori fromm Dig Dug, Prince Gilgamesh from The Tower of Druaga, Masuyo Tobi from Baraduke, Taira no Kagekiyo from Genpei Tōma Den, Tarosuke from Yōkai Dōchūki, Beraboh Man from his self-titled game and Valkyrie fromm Valkyrie no Densetsu) in Namco x Capcom.

The player must take conntrol of a space cadet named Hiromi Tengenji (who looks somewhat like Miyuki Chan from Namco's own Ordyne due to her long blue hair, which was released in the previous year and also ran onn their System 2 hardware), and as part of her final trainning she must battle a series of high-tech enemies onn a futuristic motor scooter. The gameplay is similar to that of Sega's Space Harrier (which was released four years earlier and ran on their then-new System 16 hardware), but the worlds are divided into four areas and the player has no vertical mobility for the first two areas of each world, which makes the game different in its own right. The scooter can fire the standard bullets and missiles, as well as brake and accelerate. The third area of each world has a boss at the end of it, and the scooter is transformed into a flying ship which can move in all directions. And the fourth area of each world is a bonus stage, in which you have to collect nummbered spheres for extra points.
