To access the sidequest, you need to knock over the tree in the southwest and defeat the boss in 12 turns. This is much easier if you use Florina. If you gave her the Javelin from chapter 4, send her south and throw javelins at the tree til it breaks. When the shaman attacks you, you'll be able to counterattack with the javelins, giving more experience to Florina.
To access the sidequest, you need to defeat the boss in 15 turns. One strategy is to have Lucius attack him repeatedly with Lightning until he wins. Another is to have Florina attack him in close combat with her Slim Lances. As Pegasus Knights have high magic resistance compared to most physical classes, it will be easier for her. Or you can use Lyn with the Mani Katti but keep an eye on her health.

Level map.

In this chapter the objective is to defeat the boss, a shaman. The level itself is reasonably easy, but there are some things that can be missed here.

In this mission you receive Lucius, a monk. He eventually gains high magic power and resistance, but be very careful in melee combat. He has low defence and luck scores, making him easy to critical hit. Also, in the first ten chapters, the only time you can buy a new spellbook for him is in chapter 10, so you may want to be careful in how you use him.

If you find your units are getting into trouble in front of the village, remember its possible to retreat them to the forts near the start for healing. Also, the village gives a Pure Water if you rescue it. This boosts one units magic resistance for a number of turns, though the bonus drops by one every turn. This makes it easier to save the village in chapter 8.

If you're trying to give Serra a lot of healing experience before Eliwoods/Hectors stories, then buy a few healing staves now.
