Chief's House (continued)
Hunnigan checks in and tells you that the village is under the control of a cult known as Los Illuminados. (Allowing for a spelling correction to Los Iluminados, this translates to "the Illuminated".)
If you want, you can go back into the bedroom to trigger an optional cutscene. Mendez is there and is starting to get annoyed with you. But he is distracted by shots coming from the window and you catch a glimpse of a woman in red who makes her escape to the roof while Mendez jumps out the window after her.
Check the cabinet near the door to get a Green Herb. Go down the stairs, then turn around and open the door to find villager in the bathroom. Check the rest of the house for items before going outside. There is a Brown Egg in the oven, 1000 PTAS in a cabinet and an Incendiary Grenade in a cupboard. Save your game at the typewriter if you want.
Villagers attack when you step outside, and Dr. Salvador is with them. Try to get in one shot at him with the rifle, but switch to shotgun if he gets close. He drops a Ruby, a valuable treasure, so be sure to get the spoils when the battle is over.
Continue along the path, but look for a nest in an overhanging branch and shoot it for a Spinel. There is a shack on the left with a villager waiting outside and another hiding inside. Get the box inside the shack. Just beyond this is another nest with TMP ammo inside. There are more villagers at the end of the path, possibly including Dr. Salvador again. Unbar the door to return the village again.
The Village
Since you've left this area, villagers have decided to come back and populate it again. Be alert and take out whoever comes in your way.
There is one building in the village that is locked, and the door is decorated with that symbol that you saw in the Chief's House. Head straight to the door, and use the 'Insignia Key' to unlock it. Head inside.
The Locked Building
You'll find yourself inside the once locked building. Look around for a number of items to add to inventory, and if you feel like it, use the typwriter to save. Head through the door.
In this room there are a few more items to collect. You should also notice the lamp hanging from the ceiling. Stand away from it and take a shot at it. It'll burst a reveal a 'Spinel' for you to collect. Now head through the hole in the floor.
Underground Tunnels
Head through the tunnel and pick up any items you may find along the way. You'll soon reach an open room with a lamp hanging from the ceiling. Shoot out the lamp. You'll notice the gleams of light shining in a few places along the ceiling; shoot them to make the items drop, then pick them up. Continue through the tunnel and you'll come across a merchant; put him to good use. Get rid of all the various treasures that you've found so far (except the Beerstein).
Once you are done shopping, take the ladder on the other side of the nearby door.
Cemetery
Press on and head up the path. Along the way, keep a lookout above you for a couple of bird's nests. There are also a few crows along the way, so get rid of them. By now, you've either noticed a few friends waiting around (or they may have already noticed you). Either way, send them to their graves.
Before continuing on, this area contains many blue medallions to shoot (if you are taking part in that particular side quest). Always check your map, and keep on the lookout for those shining medallions. Remember that once you shoot out 10 of these medallions, you can visit any merchant and grab yourself a brand new gun.
When you reach the cemetery, turn left and you should notice a small cabin. Head for it, and inside you'll find an assortment of items all for the taking. Grab them all, then leave the cabin.
Continue following the path and you'll eventually stumble upon the church. Right in front of the church should be a few villagers waiting to convert you. Better get rid of them now. Once you've saved yourself, turn right, and head straight. You'll come across two paths, one that leads behind the church (the left path), and one that'll take you to a new area (the right path). Let's checkout the left path first.
Watch out as you walk through: two more villagers lie in wait. Kill them, and continue forward until you reach a pedestal with dial on it. Walk up to it and start the puzzle. Your objective here is to activate only the symbols that appear on a few of the graves in the cemetery. The catch is that the dial hands can only move in increments of 3 or 4. The solution is:
- First, choose '3' seven times.
- Then choose '4' five times.
- Finally, choose '3' one time.
The puzzle will end, and the middle compartment will open and allow you to collect the 'Green Casteye'. Combine this item with the Beerstein; only one more casteye to go and it'll be complete. Head back to the area where the paths diverged, and this time take the right path.
Along this path is a view of a lake, and a number of villagers waiting to throw you into it. Get rid of them while continuing forward and jumping across the small gaps. Eventually, you'll arrive at a small cabin. Again, it contains items for you to collect. One of the crates may also have a small snake inside of it, and if you don't kill it first, it'll hurt you a little. Once you are done in here, head out, turn left and continue along the path.
At the end of this area, you'll find a single villager waiting to stop you. Instead, stop him, and then head through the door.
The Holding Area
Look to the right and you should see a barrel. Break it open and collect the item inside. Continue forward, and to the left of the group of tiny cabins, you should see a large gathering of crows. You can try to take them all out with your handgun, but that's incredibly hard. Throwing a hand grenade works well. Grab the items here, then grab more items that are in the first and third small cabins. Further past the cabins, you'll find more barrels to destroy. Grab the items from the barrels, then take the door at the bottom of the short flight of stairs.
Underground Dock
Jump down, and then continue forward. Turn right and head straight down. Along the way, you'll come across a few items to collect. There is also a typewriter that you can use if you need to, and you really should use it. Once you've reached the end, you'll find the merchant waiting in his very own shop. Time to do some shopping.
Sell any random treasures you may have (but don't sell the Beerstein), and buy anything else if you feel like it. It is recommend that you purchase a 'First Aid Spray' or two, as you will most likely need them for the events ahead.
Once you are done, check around the back of the Merchant's shop to find a few barrels. Destroy them, and pick up the items. Now leave this place via the way you came in. Use the ladder and head up. Go through the door.
Once you appear on the other side of the door, walk up the stairs and go through the door to the right.
Lagoon
Look to the right and you should see a cabin. You'll find a couple of items in there to grab, so do that before continuing. Now head down the path.
After walking for a bit, a cutscene will introduce you to another falling boulder. Time to do some button pressing. Repeatedly rress the button displayed on-screen, and be prepared to mash another button combination near the end of this event.
Once you've evaded the rolling rock, continue forward and you'll come across a collection of walkways and buildings within a lagoon. As you move into it, you'll see a villager waiting behind a tripwire. For now, take a shot at the villager to get his attention. Then step back as he comes towards you. The tripwire was initially set for you, but there is no reason why you can't give it to someone else. There are many tripwires in this area, and most of the time the resident villagers will set them off, sending them to their deaths.
You should notice by now that the other villagers in the area have been alerted to your presence. Make sure you stay alert, as they can pretty much come from any angle.
Head forward along the path, and you should find a small cabin to the left. There are a few items inside to pick up, so do that, but watch out for the villager throwing weapons at you from the other opening. There will also be another villager trying to get at you from behind, so watch out for him.
Now if you head back out of the cabin the way you came in, you'll find that more villagers have decided to take a stand. Protect yourself while moving through the area, picking up items and watching for tripwires along the way. Check your map, and you'll find a treasure hidden in one of the trees in this area.
Once the music stops, that's your signal that you've sent all the villagers home. You can then continue to the other side of the lagoon. In one of the cabins beyond the lagoon, you will find another villager waiting inside. Clear the building, and pick up any items inside. Continue along the path, and you'll come to a set of large doors. Go through them...
The Lake
Follow the path all the way to the end. The path does divide at one point, but head left to reach the end. A cutscene will play...
Now you know what you are up against.
There is a red herb hidden next to the tree near the ledge where the cutscene occurs.
Head back, and take a left turn to enter the path that you passed up previously. Keep your head up and look for a few nests in the trees, shooting them down as you come across them.
Further along the path, you'll come across two cabins. Check the first one for a few items to grab. The second one has a few more items, along with a typewriter that you might want to use.
Once you're done with the cabins, it's time to head to the small dock where a motorboat awaits you. Just for reference, you control the motorboat the same way you control Leon, except for the fact that you can't equip a knife or do a turn-around. The boat is equipped with an unlimited supply of harpoons though. Press 'R' to equip them, aim, and then press 'A' to throw them.
Jump into the boat, and go forward. A cutscene will begin...
