RuneScape is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Jagex. The game originally began as an experiment in 1998, where over the next three years it was developed until the original public beta was released in 2001. When the game got its remake in 2004, the original was renamed RuneScape Classic.

RuneScape involves building a character, leveling up skills, and selling items in the RuneScape world.

RuneScape takes place in the fantasy-themed world of Gielinor; no overall plot exists, although quests and NPC interaction reveal conflicts within the world.
