Merging the "new new FFI book"
Merging the "new new FFI book"
I've been looking over the FFI pages, and I don't really see a lot of things that need to be merged. Most of the entries either contain information already in the guide, or are too encyclopedic for our purposes (example). These entries would be better off at the Final Fantasy Wiki. The list of characters that can equip the stuff would be useful, and I intend to put such information in, however it would talk longer to pull the info from each page, figure out the corresponding item, reformat it, than it would to just get the information from the game disc. As such, it might be easiest for us if these types of pages were just deleted without merging. The Locations and Status Effects pages are great since those sections need to be added to Final Fantasy/Walkthrough. I'll go through them all this week when I have time and figure out which pages need to be added into the Final Fantasy strategy guide.

Images Needing Renaming
Images Needing Renaming
I've done this now, can a few people help me mark the unmarked images in the file list with rename so I know where they all are so can rename them as well, (A few links are in my to do section). At the moment I haven't got my FireFox PC out so I can't do the .png's but I'll start renaming my marked images now (any help with finding wrongly named images wll be greatly appreciated). Does anyone think that it'd be a good idea to have a category for pictures that need transparency, after a lot of the work I've done renaming, there were quite a few that should have transparency, does anyone think that this is a good idea?Rocky <span class="plainlinks">http://media.strategywiki.org/images/thumb/7/78/Rally-X_Rock.png/25px-Rally-X_Rock.png</span> (Talk - Contributions) 10:52, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

:::How are you going to add transparency?  Erase the stuff around the dragonfly?  What I'm saying is that when you do this and if you're not careful the edges of the object appear choppy.  I can't find an example on SW right now; most of the images we submit are high quality, so I'm not really worried about any of the guys who have put their names on the cleanup page messing up on this task.  --Notmyhandle (talk <small>•</small> contribs) 16:34, 5 May 2007 (CDT)

::I created a user subpage (User:Melon247/Category Misspellings), although it doesn't have many misspellings in it yet. There's one problem I see and it's that with so many red links, if a vandal comes to that page they might go onto the categories and start putting random stuff in. As the pages are misspellings and not going to be created, maybe they should be protected for now so only sysops can create them? (or is that a little over the top) 08:54, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
:::I love this idea Melon. A lot of the game genres have different names for the same thing. This could help with that too. I'm not too sure if blocking blatantly incorrect pages is over the top or not. However, since they should only have red links on the page you made they will have very little visibility. If vandalized less people would stumble upon it vs. if the same damage was caused to a red link in a random ToC. --Zaiqukaj 09:19, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup / game guide
:From Prod: Shouldn't look like a game guide and get categorized along with them.
The Header/Footer navs and ToC style were employed because we don't really have another way set up to deal nicely with sub-pages. The main project page needed splitting up anyway, but even without it, we still had the misspelling pages, the misspelling log and the more recent instructions page I had made. This organization method was modeled after various other multi-page topics in the StrategyWiki namespace, such as StrategyWiki:Guide, StrategyWiki:Featured guides and StrategyWiki:Requests for permissions. As for the project being categorized with game guides, I took out the completion stage from the front page, although the only category it was ever in was for guide completion, never any game categories. — <span style="color:#909090">najzere</span><span style="color:#993300">T</span> 17:34, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
:Make a new header nav for projects/official pages that doesn't categorize it as a game. -- 18:02, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
::The Header Nav already doesn't categorize it as a game. The page either gets categorized in a completion stage category if you use the <tt>num</tt> parameter, or as a sub-page if you don't. Considering those two options, the completion stage category seems more appropriate, as the front page is obviously not a sub-page, but at least no one looks in sub-pages, so it's probably just as well there. A new non-game navigation template for official pages would solve the category and appearance problem, and I think it could be made a good deal simpler than the Header/Footer Navs we use on guide pages. — <span style="color:#909090">najzere</span><span style="color:#993300">T</span> 18:27, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
:::Right right, I meant categorized under a completion stage. -- 19:07, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
:Except for the StrategyWiki Guide, I don't think any of these should use the same layout style as the game guides do. They should be fine just having a list of subpages on the front. -- Prod (Talk) 20:38, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
redrawing the controller buttons in SVG?
I think the controller button icons should be redrawn in SVG format. There are two good reasons for doing this:
# Bitmap images do not scale well, especially when magnified. If you try to blow up a bitmap image, it would look very ugly.
# Vector images usually require a smaller file size than bitmap ones. This should reduce the server load.
What do you all think? --71.139.24.217 19:17, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
:We don't ever use blown up images of controller buttons, so the main advantage of SVG images is moot. Likewise, file sizes are immaterial at this level, as they're already only at around 1–2 Kb. There are plenty of other images that would benefit from being converted to SVG though, but unfortunately SVGs have been borked on here for quite a while now and it doesn't seem that anyone cares to fix it. — <span style="color:#909090">najzere</span><span style="color:#993300">T</span> 19:27, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Empty pages
Is there a way to search for empty (or very nearly empty) pages? I happened to come across (now deleted), which existed as a page but was empty, and wondered if there were other pages like that. --Pelago 00:05, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
:Special:ShortPages, but it also finds pages that are constructed from templates rather than having content.  --Sigma 7 00:12, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
