Re: Correcting Echelon

Okay, several things:

  1. I had no clue that Echelon was the owner of this site
  2. I was not trying to "tattle" on Echelon
  3. I was submitting my honest oppinion for the good of Strategy Wiki and was simply stating the rules of the site that were not being followed
  4. I really don't see what being the owner of the site has to do with breaking your own rules. If anything, it would be worse to post somehting on your own site that contradicts your own rules.
  5. I don't see how submitting my honest oppinion about the rules of the site being followed and such is "immature" or "Unprofessional"
  6. If I'm not a sysop, then why were you acting like I should know this stuff?

I think you took my comments the wrong way, Procyon. I didn't want you to leave me alone or anything like that. I just honestly thought that I was being helpful. And as far as editting a talk page, I never said I was going to do anything like that. The whole point of this was a question regarding the link to a website on a talk page. And as far as where I got the idea that it was against the rules to link a site to your talk page, it might be for Wikipedia... Anyways, sorry if I sounded rude or confusing to you. Obviously it is fine to link a site to your talk page as long as it isn't major (and I guess if you're the owner it's fine). So thank you for the help and sorry again. Big Brain Academy

Hi, I've just been updating the Big Brain Academy guide. I think it was me who did most of it under a different name a long while back but I can't remember. Anyway I've made it a bit better adding pictures and more navigation. It is a hard game to write about as there is very little in the game but I've tried to cover every single aspect of the game!

So, as I think you are a moderator/admin (I hope you are!), I was wonderng if you could give it a score. Personally, having owned the game, I can tell you that I've covered everything and would give it a 4 and a "completed"! But you may spot a few things wrong! Thanks. Yo 'sup Procyon. Thanks for taking the time to check my progress on the Tekken 3 Movelist. I want you to know that its not that I find the format daunting but its more like I dont get enough net time to perform major editing. Hence the help requests. I am from Trinidad, an island in the Caribbean, and my only access to free net is through my phone line using my neighbour's laptop.(I no longer have a cpu of my own as it was damaged. I intend to build one but I'm waiting for the finances). Its very hard to work on the net while there's the bugging in your mind of an emergency call. So basically I only get about half an hour for the max, about twice a week, with an average speed of 40 kbps. Anyways I know I will get the hang of the formatting when I analyze your examples and get enough exposure. (Don't mind the good english for internet talk as its my style. I hate most shorthand) Talk to you later, got to go. I only got 15 mins. By the way, the formatting style is great and we dont need to do anything anytime soon. Thanks. Re: Pokemon mini games

Hi Garrett. I noticed that you added the list of Pokemon mini games to the Category. I wasn't sure if we were going to cover them or not. I have all of them (well, most of them as cartridges, even the Japanese ones, and the rest of them as ROMs). Do you have any of them? Maybe we could work together on some of the guides. Since it's media-based that makes it a system, so I think it should definitely be covered here despite being so obscure. As for the games my experience with them is very limited, so I don't know that I could write all that much about them. I've started a rough guide for Pokémon Breeder, but since I don't understand Japanese (at all) it's based entirely on trial and error. I've played several of the games but, ironically, it's the ones that are only in Japanese that interest me the most. :P GarrettTalk 18:41, 21 June 2007 (CDT)

I read your message, and I want to say, first of all, sorry if I came off as having a tantrum or something like that. I was just expressing my opinion about the fact that it does not belong in the sparse section. Also, you said that this was not about my knowledge of SW, but but then said that I placed my comment on the wrong page. Doesn't that have something to do with my knowledge? And as far as saying you were trying to rattle me with your comment, that isn't very mature in itself. The goal if you see someone doing something wrong is to politely tell them that they are doing something you think is wrong. Telling them they are "immature" and that "You'd be insulted if I guessed your age" is just plain rude. I would have loved it if you had politely told me that I should have posted my comment elsewhere, and that I came off as wanting everything done my way. But unfortunately this had to happen, and I frankly don't see what's changed. Lastly, saying "several other users I have talked to agree with me" sounds basically like you're saying you're talking bad about me behind my back, and that a show of force is going to change my attitude. Spell Checking

I saw your RB message on the Community Issues page and I thought I'd recommend upgrading to Firefox 2. It has a built in Spell check function which I find extremely useful when making message board posts and working on here. It's still pretty new so sometimes it doesn't recognize things as real words, but overall it's incredibly useful. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Walkthrough

I put that note there for the main reason that there really was no content that could go there, as far as I can see. But that's just my opinion. And you're right, I should have just blanked the page and put a note saying that a walkthrough was coming soon or I could have put a "stub" template there as well. I'm sorry if I came off as being whiny or reluctant to do something myself, which was not my intention at all but it obviously came out that way to several people. Ah. Well I really like it. For one, the base image is unpixelated so it looks like it's high quality ya know. For some reason the colors strike me. Then the border makes it look really good and yeah, the fairy circle you put on there is an awesome way to label things with symbols. Shouldn't the sewer access hole be noted (or is that on another map for another section of the guide?)? When you get around to it, you should do a map like this for the various Chris Houlihan paths people can take (I'm thinking one map, two different colored tracks like Tron to denote where to go). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 13:34, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

It will obviously need to be scaled down on the page itself, but it'll allow you to put the yellow circle in an unobtrusive location and such. Third person for ALttP

I know you're basing this on the Nintendo Player's Guide (which I still think is debatable) but I should point out that its writing style is completely inappropriate. How-to material is expected to be written in the present tense and use the second person in order to relate directly to the reader's current needs; using the preterite tense and third person words for how-to material keeps readers clearly distanced from the author(s), and is arguably presumptuous. The Player's Guide is also riddled with minor errors (Hyrulian instead of Hyrulean, Link's Cottage instead of Link's House, etc.) which would have to be picked out. I'd rather you rewrite this in the manner of the Pokémon RBY guide, which is worded really well and perfectly fits the expectations of how-to material. If that's your intention that's great, I just wanted you to know what I think before you go very far down the current path. GarrettTalk 18:01, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

imagemapping each room

yeah, that would be doable, it would just be a bit of a pain. If you want to see what the wikicode looks like for that, check out this page. Well, sort of similar. What I would do is make the room labels jump to that particular room and have the rest go to the larger map, so I would be using rect instead of poly. Half of my reply on this page, and half on my talk page... I need to get a bit more with it today. Anyways, you need to make the room numbers H4s or H5s instead of bolded text. The imagemapping won't jump to them otherwise. To prevent all that stuff from making the ToC too large, just do the following: <div class="toclimit-3">__TOC__</div>. They need to be headings because I was thinking of linking the labels to that section , so its kind of like an image ToC instead of a text ToC. You click on 1F and it takes you to the strategy for room 1F. However, I would like to know how large the boxes are generally (width and height in pixels) of the original image (the one on the image page), I can find out the coordinates by myself, but if I know how large they are, it saves me a lot of work. Here's how I was planning on doing the code:

I've located the class that controls the edit section tabs (it's called "editsection", ain't that creative :P), and have made a bit of css that will hide them when enclosed in a span (css viewable here). Don't know what we could use it for anymore, but it's there just in case. Well, I hope I didn't embarrass you too much with my corrections; of course that was not my intention. I think it is actually possible to make round-by-round strategy for EE like, shoot this to get this, watch out for these guys coming from the sides, etc. (Did you break 1 million yet? I am stuck at around 900,000.) I would like to know, what are your sources for the names? Did you go from the Famicom manual? The names used in Capcom Classics Collection are somewhat different. As for your other question, I would have to say I am fairly knowledgeable about Ghosts 'n' Goblins, having just finished both loops on one life. (I did take some hits though.) Template:Tl

Don't know if this was intentional or not, but the level 3 sword and the magic hammer use the same parameter (5). I didn't want to create a new thread about "thanks," but hey! The movelist update is awesome! There's one little thing you need to program in and that's alternating between two images on rows that use File:Arcade-Max.png. Main Page DPLs

I put the refresh link there because I enabled the parser cache for the DPLs on the Main Page (aka, it takes results from the cache wherever it can so it reduces server load). The refresh link purged the page for people that wanted more accurate results, as the data is now mostly cached. I've also implemented the caching option on Template:Tl, so the majority of our DPLs now use the cache (which should reduce server load immensely).   • I did find separated categories for some of the Final Fantasy maps, which is why I started doing the GSC maps (and eventually intended to go back and edit all the maps into subcategories for neatness's sake).

  • Where do you get your percentages for the encounter tables? I'm looking at the data in GoldMap, and by my math, if I'm analyzing what I'm seeing correctly, your data's way off. For instance, Route 30 Day in Silver, GoldMap shows one Ledyba, 2 Weedles, 1 Kakuna and 3 Pidgeys, so I make the percentages 14%, 29%, 14% and 43% - you have 25/50/10/15... so where DID you get your numbers? -- DrGaellon (talk | contribs) 19:40, 20 August 2007 (CDT)

Screencapping Pokémon

I'm playing my way through Crystal right now; I certainly wouldn't mind doing screencaps as I go. What sorts of things should I be capping?

I will be happy to go back and screencap RBY after finishing GSC. Capping GSC has to lag behind you writing the pages, but since I'm playing it as we go...
Actually, I'm going to start capping from the point where I am currently saved; I'll go back and screencap the beginning after we get to the end. I didn't HAVE to start over; I could have kept going with VBA! :) I've downloaded or saved all the maps, so as I'm working my way through, I'll upload them as I get to each page. I cropped any excess framing, and shrunk most of them down so the larger dimension is 640px (except the Route maps, which are awfully big to shrink that much).

Converting to PNG is easy enough; I have Adobe PhotoShop on my desktop box. Unfortunately, the caps are 160x144 - that's awfully small, but there's nothing to be done about it, I think. VBA caps as PNG, but they're the same size.
Re: maps. Do you want me to recapture the maps at full size, or can I go ahead and use the ones I shrank? It's not a big deal to recapture them, if you'd prefer. Also, I think there are subtle differences between the maps of Kanto in GSC and the original maps in RBY; should I recapture all the Kanto maps on the Gold ROM, or just use the ones that were already uploaded for RBY?
Having someone else to work with on a project like this makes it much more fun, and much easier. I don't IRC anymore, but I can be found on AIM and Yahoo Messenger with the same UserID I used here. I was able to expand the screen caps in APS to 320x288 with no blur, so that's good. The Kanto maps are all B&W, and there are some differences, so I recapped all the Kanto maps in color off the Gold ROM. Is there a resource where I can find small images of the various sprites (people, berry trees, Poké balls, etc) to drop onto the maps as part of the walkthrough? (I think the Gym maps look much better if you can see where the trainers are on the map, for instance.) I am neither GiMP-skilled enough nor artistically skilled enough to clean up this image. It's blurry, a bit out of focus and rather washed-out in color compared to the other sprites we have.
