If during Chapter 1, you told Cid while visiting Zanarkand you were unhappy with the tourists at the Zanarkand Ruins, you can find him on the Thunder Plains marked by a red X. Talk to him and he will apologize. In the same area as Cid, you will find 3 chests with Echo Screen x5(north to the first Cactuar Stone), Hi-Potion x2(east to Cid), and a Safety Bit(to the west between Tower No.4 and No.5). Continue on to the next large area. Near the middle of the Plains, under the old shelter you should spot Lian and Ayde. Speak with them. They would like your advice on where to look for ways to fix Kimahri's horn. You are given a choice of Djose Temple, Moonflow, and Kilika. Any choice is up to you, it only affects the area you will find them during Chapter 4. Here in this area you can find chests with the items Phoenix Down x3(east to the entrance from Thunder Plains - South), Dark Grenade x2(east to Tower No.8), and Ether x3(west to the Tower you find Lian and Ayde).
