Bionic Commando is a series developed and produced by Capcom that made its debut on the Arcades with an Action game.

The series can be split in two, with the first Bionic Commando belonging to both parts.

Note that the most famous title, the second Bionic Commando, merges the gameplay of Commando and the first Bionic Commando. Furthermore, Super Joe is the hero in the games up to the the first Bionic Commando, whereas he is the prisoner of war to be rescued starting from the second Bionic Commando.

Therefore, depending on the point of view, the first Bionic Commando belongs to both the "earlier Commando series" and the "later Bionic Commando series" at the same time.
