Playing Sonic the Hedgehog is relatively simple. This is a short walkthrough on how the game mechanics work.

The Object of the Game

The object of the game is to speed through six Zones, with 3 Acts each. Each Act has a variety of enemies and challenges that must be conquered in order to continue. Within the Acts, Sonic must collect rings in order to keep himself protected from enemy attacks. Collecting rings is also mandatory to go to the special stage, where one of the six Chaos Emeralds can be obtained. In order to complete the game 100%, you must collect all six Chaos Emeralds and defeat Dr. Robotnik in the Final Zone.
