The First Step is part of the minutemen quest line. It is available after the events of When Freedom Calls, and if you are not the leader of the raiders in the Nuka-World DLC.

In this mission, you are sent to an uncontacted settlement. This is normally Tenpines Bluff, but may fallback to Oberland Station or another random settlement. The settler there will mention that they are under attack by raiders, and you will need to enter the assigned building to wipe them out. The location is randomized, but there are a few common choices.

As with all bandit-clearing missions, you only need to kill the bandit leader in the building.

Corvega Assembly Plant[edit]

If you are approaching this plant from Tenpines Bluff, you are likely to go through Lexington. In that area, there is a raider with a fat man launcher, which can easily kill you in one hit. Consider approaching from the north-west instead.

The Corega Assembly Plant's front entrance is covered by both raiders and turrets. If you want an alternate way in, you can use a sewer entrance in the northeast corner, which is a cracked sewage pipe. Regardless of which entrance you choose, you are likely to encounter the same amount of resistance.

Your target, Jared, is found on the top floor of the plant. There are a few other raiders in the same room, as well as two sentry turrets. You can also activate a protectron, which is hostile to the bandits (although it is possible it may attack you depending on its personality.)

The most important loot in this location includes:

  • Grognak the Barbarian (+5% unarmed/melee critical hit damage), found on Jared's desk next to the computer.
  • Repair Bobblehead (+10% fusion core duration) found over the northeast corner of the plant, on the highest catwalk surrounding the spherical tank.
