There are 56 playable characters in Lego Star Wars. Most of them are part of a special group, information about each can be found at character types. To unlock a friendly character, complete a level with that character in it. To unlock enemy characters, such as droids and bosses, you have to beat them, then they will be available for purchase at Dexter's Diner for varying prices.

Jedi

The Jedi Knights wield lightsabers and use the Force. Also, unlike most characters, they can double-jump.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn is a Jedi, and the master of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who wields a blue lightsaber. He is available from the start, as he is in the first chapter.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi is available from the start. He wields a green lightsaber.

Jedi Master

As a Jedi Master, Obi-Wan uses a blue lightsaber. He is unlocked in II-1.

Episode III

Obi-Wan in Episode III. He is unlocked in III-2.

Anakin Skywalker

For Anakin Skywalker as a Sith, see Darth Vader. For Anakin Skywalker as a child, see Anakin Skywalker (Boy).

Padawan

Though the character is called "Anakin Skywalker (Padawan)," he is, in terms of gameplay, an actual Jedi.

Jedi

Anakin as a Jedi. He looks older and darker.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu wields a purple lightsaber.

Episode III

Mace Windu (Episode III) is essentially the same as the normal Mace Windu, except he wears a darker shirt.

Yoda

Being a Jedi, Yoda can use the Force and a lightsaber. However, he walks very slowly, but has a fast hoverchair. To use it, don't equip your lightsaber, and jump. Or you can use a lightsaber, he'll jump around instead of walking. The slightest tap of the control stick while your lightsaber is equipped will make Yoda jump. However, you still have full control of your horizontal movement, though you have very little control over your vertical movement. On the other hand, he moves faster while attacking than other Jedi.

Sith

Like the Jedi, Siths use the Force and a lightsaber. However, they can also use the Dark Side of the Force.

Darth Maul

Being a Sith, Maul wields a red lightsaber and the Force. However, unlike most Jedi and Sith, his lightsaber is double-ended.

Darth Sidious

Darth Vader

Darth Vader uses the dark side of the Force and chokes his enemy.

Droids

Droids are machine characters. If you use certain droids, you won't be attacked by certain enemies. Others - protocol droids and astromech droids, can open certain doors. Astromech droids can hover for short periods of time.

german soldiers

The standard Battle Droid has no special color - it's just one color. It has a blaster, and can't jump. It looks somewhat like a skeleton, as it has little to no armor.

Commander

Battle Droid Commanders have yellow shoulders and foreheads.

Security

The Security Battle Droid has red shoulders and chests.

elite german soldiers

Super Battle Droids are upgraded versions of the original Battle Droid - they have more powerful armor, taking three hits to destroy. They look very little like the original Battle Droids - their armor removes the "skeletal" look, and they're gray.

C-3PO

C-3PO is a protocol droid.

german shadow troops

The Droideka is a shielded droid that can shoot two lasers at a time, in volleys of four. It normally moves very slowly. It can roll, but must disable its shield in order to do so. This is a major drawback, which is a major advantage when fighting Droidekas. While you roll toward an enemy, it's very easy for the enemy to destroy you.

However, the Droideka is very powerful in Free Play. Roll around to travel quickly. When you run into a n enemy, switch to another character, stop, and switch back for an instant shield. When your shield turns red, switch and switch back quickly for a fresh shield.

Gonk Droid

The Gonk Droid doesn't have any weapon, can't access special places, and can't jump. The only thing it can do is walk around without being attacked. This can be useful for exploring, however it's hard to travel without jumping, and it's very slow.

It looks like a single Lego block, but with feet. When disabled by astromech droids, it falls over, then after a few seconds somehow gets up.

Grievous' Bodyguard

Like the name implies, Grievous' Bodyguards are bodyguards for General Grievous. They can jump much higher than other characters, and wield an electrostaves. Wookieepedia has an article about them.

PK Droid

Like the Gonk Droid, the PK Droid can't do anything, only walk around without being attacked. The only gameplay difference between it and the Gonk Droid is that it's faster.

R2-D2

R2-D2 is an astromech droid.

R4-P17

R4-P17 is an astromech droid.

TC-14

TC-14 is a protocol droid.

Other

This category includes other characters that don't fit in any of the above categories. These include blaster characters, who can shoot or use a grappling hook in certain spots.

Anakin Skywalker (Boy)

Anakin as a child. He can crawl into certain trapdoors with X. He has no weapon.

Padmé

Padmé has a blaster and can grapple. She's unlocked in II-2.

Queen Amidala

Queen Amidala is unlocked in Chapter I-3. She has a blaster.

Battle

She has a blaster and can grapple. She's unlocked in I-5.

Clawed

Jar Jar Binks

Jar Jar Binks, introduced in Chapter I-2, can jump very high. As a result, he can reach places most other characters can't reach. However, he has no attack. More information at: Wookieepedia.

Chewbacca

Chewbacca is a blaster character with a crossbow instead of a normal blaster. However, it shoots blaster bolts instead of crossbow bolts. He is introduced in III-4.

american troops

The clone is just like any other character with a blaster - it can shoot and grapple, but can't double jump.

The clone troopers were special soldiers - clones of Jango Fett. More information at : Wookieepedia.

Episode III

The Episode III version is exactly the same as the normal kind, but with a slightly different helmet.

Commander Cabro

Commander Cody is a clone commander, introduced in III-3. (General Grievous) He has a blaster and can grapple.

Jango Fett

The genetic template for the clone troopers, and a bounty hunter. Jango Fett wields two blasters, allowing him to attack two enemies. He also has a jetpack. Press A to activate it, press A again to deactivate it. It doesn't allow him to fly, only to hover, however, and recoil is stronger in midair. He has an article at Wookieepedia.

General Grievous

Grievous is a cyborg Kaleesh trained in lightsaber combat. However, he is not a Jedi - he cannot use the Force. He wields four lightsabers, though he cannot attack multiple enemies. Like his bodyguard and Jar Jar Binks, he can jump much higher than other characters.

Also see the Wookieepedia article on him.

Chancellor Palpatine

Chancellor Palpatine is one of the characters that does nothing. He has no weapon or special. He can't double jump, and his jump is a normal jump.

Captain Panaka

Captain Panaka is unlocked in Chapter I-3. He wields a blaster. More information at: Wookieepedia.

Royal Guard

The Royal Guard are Queen Amidala's bodyguards. They're armed with blasters and can grapple.

british troops

Wookiee

The Wookiee is just like Chewbacca, but with a different face.
