Layla/Items

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

Unless otherwise specified, Layla can store up to 255 uses or ammunition for each particular weapon.

Roller Skates[edit]

Each Roller Skate that Layla collects increases the maximum speed at which she is able to run. You can collect a maximum of nine Roller Skates.

Pistol[edit]

This is the standard weapon that Layla begins the game with. It will never run out of ammunition. Each Pistol tile that you find increases the offensive strength of the Pistol a little bit. The maximum strength that the Pistol can be increased to is 30.

Machine Gun[edit]

The Machine Gun fires a rapid series of bullets whenever you hold the B button down. Be careful not to fire too many bullets when you are running low on ammo.

Hand Grenade[edit]

When Layla throws a hand grenade, it arcs through the air and eventually bounces around on the ground. It is the most effective weapon when trying to attack enemies or blow up crates that lie below Layla's feet. It will blow up after a certain period of time, or whenever it strikes an enemy character. It is not effective against bosses. Layla throws the grenade closer to the ground when squatting.

Flame Thrower[edit]

The Flame Thrower is a very powerful weapon, but it has limited range. You must be closer to your enemy to use it effectively, or the flame simply dissipates in the air.

Throwing Ax[edit]

The Throwing Ax is a surprisingly powerful weapon. It can eliminate certain tough monsters with a single hit. It arcs through the air like a grenade, rising up a little before falling back down, but it does not bounce on the ground. For this reason, it is good for attacking enemies which are slightly above Layla's head.

Bazooka[edit]

The Bazooka is an ineffective weapon for many enemies. However, there are but a few enemies for which the Bazooka is the most effective weapon of all. Learn to identify these enemies and take them down with the Bazooka when you encounter them.

Beam Saber[edit]

Layla Beam Saber.png

The Beam Saber is not a very effective weapon, as it cannot harm every enemy. It is slow to fire, but when it strikes, it continues to pass through a defeated enemy and strike whatever lies beyond. A special bonus can be earned if you manage to kill three enemies with one blade.

Barrier[edit]

Layla Barrier.png

The Barrier is a defensive weapon only. When activated, two particles appear and begin to orbit around Layla. The effect of these particles is to nullify all damage that Layla would take while the Barrier is in operation. The amount of charge it has slowly counts down, and the Barrier will automatically disappear if the charge is reduced to 0. The Barrier can in no way harm an enemy.

Special Option[edit]

The Special Option is a unique item that can only be selected by pausing the game and pressing Select button to access the weapon selection menu at the top of the screen. The Special Option always has two different effects. The first effect is to reduce Layla's health slightly. For this reason, you should never use a Special Option if you are already low on health. You may notice that the arrow which selects a particular weapon can be rotated with the press of the A button button. When choosing the Special Option, the direction that the arrow is facing determines the second effect of the Special Option when you use it. Refer to the following table to understand its effects.

Second Effect Damage is given to every enemy present on the screen. All crates present on the screen are instantly destroyed. Your score receives a 1,000 point bonus. All sections of the terrain which can be destroyed are removed.

Password Disk[edit]

There is one password disk located in every asteroid fortress. In order to complete the game, Layla must collect all eight of them in addition to rescuing Elise and the Doctor. Failure to find a password disk will result in Layla being unable to harm to final boss in any way. It will also prevent you from obtaining a password when defeating the boss of a particular asteroid, or being able to continue from that asteroid if you are defeated. Finding the password disk should be your first priority before locating and defeating the fortress boss.
