Iron Island is where you'll get a rare egg so you need an empty slot in your party. No HMs are needed. Exit your boat and climb the stairs into the cave.
[[File:Pokemon DP Iron Island.png|right|200px|Iron Island]]

You can get some good experience leveling up. You
'''Iron Island is a former ore Mine that became a training area and home to certain Pokémon.'''
will be attacked by a lot of Graveler and that's new to your Pokédex. Ice and Water attacks will make short work of the enemies. There are also some trainers and
items found here.

Note also that you will have a companion who will heal you after every battle, so feel free to battle wild Pokémon as much as you want.

==Getting through Iron island==
==Outside==
Here's what to do for clearing the cave:
Climb up the first set of stairs and there is a small house where you will see Byron in after you obtain the National Dex and he will give you a Metal Coat. Just south of the house in a rock is a hidden Max Ether. Climb up the next set of stairs and the entrance to the mine is there.
* Go down the eastern flight of stairs.
* Climb upstairs, then east, then downstairs, then south, then up the eastern of stairs, down the elevator.
* Go down west set of stairs, and Riley partners up with you and follows you around and battles with you and heals your Pokémon after each battle. This is a great time to train your Pokémon a bit.
* Take the first path south, fight some trainers, then continue south, then go upstairs, then southward to fight a handful of trainers, go down stairs, go up stairs, beat team galactic and go down the elevator.
* This gets you the Riolu egg. Go through the cave door, up the elevator, and out of the cave.
* If you explore the cave and use the item finder app on your poketch then you will find many items and stones and TMs.
* If you don't have a free space in your Pokémon pouch then you will have to come back to get the egg from Riley. It takes 6,656 steps to hatch.

When you first enter the cave you will see two stairs and nothing else is on this floor for you to find besides some wild Pokémon which can be found in the other parts of the mine. Take the steps to the left first.

This floor is broken up into two sections the left and right side and which side you end up in depends on which stairs you take on 1F. If you are following the guide then you will be on the left side first. On the left side is a trainer in the southern section and an Iron Ball up the stairs just past the trainer. Once you are done here then go back to 1F and go down the right stairs.

Again this floor is split into two sections. You will be going to the right side first. Once down the stairs continue straight and you will find Worker Willy. Go past Willy and up the stairs to find a Max Ether.  Go back towards Willy and take the next left. Go up the stairs and battle Worker Braden. In the pit next to Braden is TM23 {{bpm|Iron Tail}} in the left side and a hidden Iron in the right side. When done here go back to the stairs where you came down and head to the left side of B2F.

This is where the training for your water, grass, and ice type Pokémon gets really good as you will meet Riley who has a level 34 Lucario. He will fight with you turning all wild Pokémon encounters into multi battles. Also it is suggested to face all the trainers here two at a time so Riley can battle with you. Riley will heal your Pokémon after each battle you have that Riley is involved with.

Head straight and you will battle with Hikers Damon and Maurice. Go past them and just north of the stairs is an Ultra Ball. Go south and at the fork go to the right until you see a barrel. On the barrel is a hidden Full Restore. Turn around and go down the leftmost path and you will find Workers Brendan and Quentin. Go up the stairs next to the Workers and then go down the next stairs and you will find a Max Potion. Head back towards the Workers. Go south of the stairs and go through the next set of stairs. On the middle barrel is a hidden Revive and to the south is a HP Up. Go back towards the Workers again and go right past the barrel that had the hidden Full Restore. Continue following the path east and you will find Black Belt Kendal and Battle Girl Tyler. Continue south and go up the stairs to the right and go north to find a Magnet. Head south and go past the stairs to a pit. In the pit is a hidden Iron Plate. Go back to the stairs and head west and up the next stairs to fight Ace Trainers Jonah and Brenda. Go down the stairs and follow the path to find the Galactic Grunts.

Riley says that the grunts are the reason for agitating the Pokémon here and he doesn't want them to bring any trouble into his mine. The grunts then say they are stealing all the Pokémon here and no one can stop them. Riley then asks you to take them down with him.

After defeating the grunts, Riley will hand you a Pokémon egg as a thanks for helping him then you two part ways. To get out go down the lift and go through the cave to the left and you will be in the final room.
