| Shiny Pokémon appeared for the first time in the second generation of Pokémon games (Pokémon Gold, Pokémon Silver, and Pokémon Crystal). It may or may not have been true that their stats were better in the second generation, but they were much easier to find. If you found none in the wild, you would at least find a shiny Gyarados. And if you find one, the chances of finding another double. Besides Gyarados the easiest one to find is shiny Magikarp. It's found right next to Lake of Rage (it may be just a coincidence). The shack next to the lake has a man who wants a huge Magikarp (just a shiny one really), he says he'll give you a prize (just a max elixer). Other than that, shiny Pokémon have a relatively short history.

| Their color is pretty basic – the colors are the exact opposite colors of the normal one. For example, a shiny Gyarados is red, while a regular one is blue.

| ==Shining Pokémon in the Third Generation==

| Shining Pokémon haven't changed too much since the second generation, except they are a lot harder to find and the old rules don't apply. The only thing that helps is that ''sometimes'' using a repel will attract them. One advantage might be that a shiny Pokémon may receive a better placing in Pokémon Contests. Other than that, nothing is gained but satisfaction when you catch one. If you are extremely lucky, you may get a shiny starter Pokémon.
