I think I was 8 or so before I got my SNES (it was like $115 used with several games), which I still have.  I was given [[Shadow Run]] as part of the bundle, which after being stumped on I went and traded it for [[Secret of Mana]]; a great trade indeed (although I had to pay an extra $20 or so).  I feel bad for getting rid of that game though, I have only traded/sold like five games in my life and I've regretted every single exchange.

(Side note; sold games: [[Shadow Run]], [[Swat Cats]], [[Vagrant Story]], this one basketball game for Xbox though I gave it away instead of selling it; lost games T_T: [[Banjo Kazooie]], [[The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time]])

When I turned 11, 5th grade, I rented an N64 and had a party with a couple of friends, playing [[GoldenEye 007]] and [[Starfox 64]].  That December my cousins and and my brothers recieved an N64 to be split between us.  After several years of swapping we ended up with the system (which I still have).
