Thank you for your message. Just as you suggested, I am going to edit the article now. When I found the contributors, I realized that neither of them have been active for quite awhile, so it is unlikely they will respond to me.

Actually, it was me who wanted them ''not'' to be the standard; we should be using '''colons''' for controls (and other similar lists). I had a big argument with NMH about it (I think he was in favour of en-dashes), but I can't be bothered to look it up. I only added some info for 4Players because as far as I can tell they are the publisher for the game, and I didn't want to have any red links (so the guide can eventually move to the next completion stage).  If that was a mistake on my part then thanks for the correction.  [[User:Bong|Bong]] 16:30, 31 January 2008 (CST)

== Your signature ==

I just noticed that your customized signature is causing problems when you post it inside a template (such as the [[StrategyWiki:Featured guides/Current requests|Featured guides requests]]). The vertical pipe you have between the links to your Talk and Contribution pages causes the system to think that anything following the Talk link is part of a different parameter and not appear on the page. You could probably fix it by wrapping a <nowiki><nowiki></nowiki> tag around the pipe. - [[User:Koweja|Koweja]] 12:09, 2 March 2008 (CST)

Hi Duke!  I like the idea of the pokemon template, and you did a great job with it, but why did you place them in some of the subpages?  Putting them on the front pages makes sense, but adding them to the pokedex and move lists seems a little much.  Just my $0.02.  [[User:Procyon|Procyon]] ([[User talk:Procyon|Talk]]) 12:53, 14 May 2008 (CDT)

Thanks for your reminder to tell me to use "Show Review". However, I find your reminder a bit insulting considering the fact that [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:OhanaUnited I'm an administrator on Wikipedia] so the usage of edit mode and its buttons is 2nd nature to me. Also, there's no rule against edit-stacking. I know it will flood RC, but I prefer to edit them in small sections. == New Wiki ==

Hi Duke.  I'm really excited about this.  We're going to set up a second wiki that is exclusively for all video game content that falls outside the scope set for StrategyWiki.  This would include, but is not limited to, gaming history, characters (Mario, Link, etc.), locations and settings (Hyrule, Castlevania, etc.), gaming paraphernalia (such as the afore mentioned Pac-Man Fever album, and I'm going to scan my complete set of Fleer Pac-Man and Topps Donkey Kong stickers), and magazines (EGM, Nintendo Power, etc.).  Hopefully, the two wikis will interlink with one another seamlessly, but we'll have a new home for additional content. == Star Fox 2 ==

Hi, thanks a lot for the message ; ) I thought that with a game as unknown as this one probably nobody would notice/care : P Thanks for telling me about the proper use of the "=" header and correcting it. About making the guide multiple pages, well at first I thought that since the game is fairly simple, and since it was unreleased there isn't a huge amount of info available for it, and though I'm going to do my best to fill all the important parts, I was going to do it one page first and see how it went, also because I didn't know how normal policies were regarding the required length of info needed to add more pages, but I then had a look at other guides and many have about the info I think I could probably fill in multiple pages, and now I see it might be also a bit cluttered all in one page, so I might do it. What do you think then about making one page for each of the mayor sections?

1-Intro, Contents and Emulation

2-Controls

3-Character Selection

4-Difficulty

5-Gameplay

6-Strategy

7-Scoring

8-Secrets (with trivia added)

I think I'm going to go ahead with that.

Thanks a lot for your help ; ) [[User:Galaxy|Galaxy]] 19:37, 24 August 2008 (CDT)

== Spore toc ==

It's a bit hard deciding how to design a toc for a game as big as Spore. I hope it gets chosen as the next collab of the month. Anyway, earlier today I decided that the toc was missing a few links and was in need of a major revamp. I decided to look at other game walkthroughs to see how they set up their contents page. [http://www.mahalo.com/Spore_Walkthrough  This page] contains some info as well as a few links to other spore walkthroughs (including ours) so I looked at the elements covered and added the links. In response to the your suggestion to the phase pages, I think it might work better if it simply contained a shot of the interface with pointers to each bar and screen with links to pages covering each element. I also wonder whether it might be useful to have links for the three paths during each phase (e.g. Military, Religious, Economic) as well. For the specifics raised, the air, land and sea vehicles could probably be merged but I feel that the Spaceship editor should have its own link. The Huts link could cover a lot if we wanted. As for the epic creatures link, that's a bit harder to decide. They might work better in another section saying as they appear in every phase. As I'm typing this, it also could be beneficial if we contained pages with 'examples' of creatures, buildings and vehicles created with the editor similar to [http://www.primagames.com/features/spore/free_spore_mini_guide.pdf  this guide]. Anyway, I'm not sure how long I'll be on this site for now but I'll be here tommorow. [[User:Sims2Guy|Sims2Guy]] 08:27, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

There's a |nog=true type parameter to hide that column. The only problem with system specific headers, is if it exists for multiple systems.  I think there's already a discussion about this started on the forums. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|Talk]]) 15:29, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

== Perhaps you can move this to community forum. ==

I am not sure how to enter the Community Forum so maybe you can move it over there.

I said I was leaving, which was my sincere intent at the time, and if I get called on it, it would be only honorable to follow through.

Every couple of years, I try to change the world in some small way, and I haven't accomplished it yet.  So I don't expect to now, but I am going to tell you my position one more time and let you all dwell on this and maybe after a few years, someone will think that perhaps it's worthy of implementation.

I am going to go about it the long way, sorry.  I am just going to get everything off my chest.

First, I am going to mark my calendar of Oct. 5, 2008 of the last time I went ballistic.  I hope it doesn't happen again for a while.  I was honestly, sincerely, genuinely and totally agitated.

This is a side issue before I get to what I really want to talk about, but I am just going to lay it all out.

Try to think of any situation in any context that any author/creator/publisher/painter/blogger/newspaper journalist, anybody in any situation has their by-line removed and it's not going to send that person into an apoleptic fit.

I can't think of a single situation.  A painter, without being informed, gets his name painted over.  A newspaper reporter writes a story and someone deletes his name from it.

Think of Stephen King talking to his publisher after his name wasn't put on the book because when he submitted his work his name was accidentally put in the wrong place, thus deleted.  I don't think he would start the conversation with, "I think there is a misunderstanding."  He would have had a stroke in the ensuing conversation.

All that said, I was totally out of bounds, but I was actually holding back in my initial post to Garrett.  My apologies to Garrett for my attitude.

But that is not what I really want to discuss.  I want to discuss by-lines and links to other websites.  I know how you all feel, and I hope some time in the next ten years you all might change your attitude about them, because evidently this site's admin is absolutely 100% deadset against what I am proposing.

Which I accept.

Believe it or not, this is my main hobby in life -- writing walkthroughs.  I know, pretty frightening, but it's my baby and I take it personally.

After contributing to the wiki for months just for the sake of seeing my work on the internet, I decided to take it to the next level, a somewhat natural capitalistic, individualistic pursuit, having my own website.

I don't think that makes me a bad person.

That being said, I have a dream, it's a grand vision.  Ten years from now, I am going to have video guides for practically every real-time strategy game out there.  Right now, I think I have a (very) slight niche in this area.

That being said, people need to know about my site, and what a wonderful way to generate traffic than to CONTINUE to contribute written walkthroughs to a highly-ranked site, like StrategyWiki, and have links to my own website with the added video guides.

Gosh, I would be quite happy with your "leftovers" that trudge over to my site.

But at the same time, I have always been of the firm belief that you need to give something in order to get something in return.  I would be happy to continue to contribute to the StrategyWiki site, and in a mutually beneficial arrangement, I would receive traffic to my own.

Now, I don't think this is an alien concept.  You give something and you get something in return.

In the past we have discussed why putting "by lines" in the actual walkthroughs is somehow unfair to someone, but it just doesn't stick in my mind.

Why?  Why is this unfair to anyone?  What is wrong with giving credit where credit is due?

If ten people contribute to the walkthrough and there are ten by-lines at the end, so be it.

I am not offended.  If I write the main post and someone adds a paragraph or sentence and also want a by-line, no worries.

If some people don't want a by-line, fine.  If others do, it is NOT unfair to those who just don't care or are happy having their name in the history section.

Who is hurt?  How is this unfair?  I just can't seem to get this concept into my brain.

Where am I wrong again??

If I had this motivation, I would definitely be sending in more walkthroughs to your site.  I have dozens lined up just sitting on my computer.

But in all honesty, and don't be too harsh on me, I really don't find the motivation to do this in my present situation of trying to build up my own site.  (Its main focus is creating the videos.)

A by-line won't hurt anyone, it is not unfair to anyone, (all contributors can put theirs on the actual walkthrough if they want it) and it will encourage other sites to contribute more material to your site.

How is that a bad thing?  I am pounding my head against the wall and just don't get it.

Other sites that also have walkthroughs will probably be lining up to put their walkthroughs on StrategyWiki -- so they can have the prestige of a higher visitor count, perhaps increase their search engine positions, perhaps to increase advertising revenue, perhaps to sell Command & Conquer pewter figurines.

I appreciate the link in the bottom of the initial intro page, and I will keep it, but I doubt anyone will ever see it.

So, again, I accept that you will decide this issue, basically, have already decided this issue, but I still cannot figure out counterproductive reasons for putting by-lines where I would like them, in the actual walkthroughs.

I am sure there are other ways to generate traffic, but StrategyWiki is where I started, despite all the tumult since then.

That's it.  As an intellectual exercise, perhaps you can repeat one more time why this is such a horrid idea.  I am not going back to the old posts.  It brings back too many unpleasant memories.

Good luck to you all.  An apology to all involved.  As you all could tell, I was so agitated I didn't even know who I was writing responses to.

Anyone kind enough to respond to this, I won't debate it, but I will accept it, like I accept the current policy.

== Thanks for the assistance ==

I still need to digest it all, but your points are well made and am happy with you all's consideration.

More than I was expecting, very happy with the external link location.

And I can understand that this is Wiki oriented, community oriented, not contributor oriented.  I get the concept of a group effort -- and accomplishment for the sake of accomplishment.

Honest.

I know you all put a lot of hard work into this community effort and that is to be applauded. [[User:Karlcsr|Karlcsr]] 18:31, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
