Hey, Got Some News
Sourcing
Hey Procyon, it's been a bit since we last spoke. After all the hours I put into Tower of Druaga I finally decided to make my first Youtube video about the "Darkness Tower" and soon "Another Tower" since there were literally no videos on them whatsoever (and as far as I can tell only one based on the original arcade game). I thought you might want to check it out since it was your guide that got me to the point where I could make the video. I gave you credit for the guide as I included a miniature version of it so people knew what I was doing in each part. I only posted it yesterday. Was my first time using the camcorder so I didn't know about the auto brightness adjust or the slant despite it sitting flat, but my "Another Tower" video will have those fixed. The link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlIpo8kkKOI and thanks again for all your hard work on this game. --PrinceGilgamesh 08:15, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm looking to convert a lot of screenshots and you're responsible for a lot of em. Do you remember if you captured any of the screenshots below? If not, remember where they came from? I would share more, but can only generate 500 at a time!

:Hi Trig Jegman. Yeah, I captured a lot of those images personally, especially the single screen games like Combat, Bubble Bobble, Lode Runner, and Chack'n Pop.  Other games like Castle Excellent and Athena were done so long ago, I'm not sure I'd be able to locate them again if I tried. I have a tendency to add markup to them in the process of making them consumable for a walkthrough.  I know this isn't the most satisfactory answer, but it's the best I have right now. If I somehow conjure up the source for some of the other images, I'll let you know. But I'm more likely to stumble across them accidentally than intentionally. ::Maybe to put this another way, are there any significant examples you can think of where you didn't self capture them? Trig - 04:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

RE: Edit Summaries
Thanks for the Thanks
Hey Procyon, its PrinceGilgamesh. My apologies, I'm still new to using wiki and didn't know it was more appreciated to give more extensive information. I've just been playing this game for quite a bit now and wanted to update things for future users. I see from the talk below that you were the one who probably made up most of that guide? If so, I wasn't trying to offend you in any way. If I can change the summary information I will gladly add more info. Fellow Druaga fan, PrinceGilgamesh 21:07, 1 June 2010 (EST)

I didn't realize you could continue until today. The whole time I was trying to climb back up to floor 28. So now that I could continue from floor 28 to figure out the command, its that a roper must cross you and the door at the same time. 01:05, 9 June 2010 (EST)
Hey Procyon,

Additions
No problem! After I finish the RSE guide, I'm going to apply the new templates me and Prod made to the FRLG pages too - Hopefully, it'll decrease the file size for them. Then I'll probably check out the other Pokémon guides to see what they're like, and maybe go onto a different franchise. Pakuchi -- Someone! Anyone! Respond! 13:54, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
Hey Procyon, ReyVGM here. I've emailed you before about Tower of Druaga information but you never replied. I guess you must have changed emails.
I'll just drop the info here then for future reference:

I played the Sharp X1 and MSX ports of Tower of Druaga and the solutions are NOT the same for those games. The first few levels work the same, but not the advanced ones.
I need some guidance
The MSX version also appears to have a new enemy type according to a Japanese page I found.
Hi Procyon! Um, honestly I am kind of embarrassed on pinging you about this considering that you are the head of StrategyWiki, but the thing is, I want to ask for guidance from you regarding about some of my guides because recently I have been thinking of something, I want to know what you think and what will be your advice to me regarding about this, this will be somewhat long so I hope you have time to read, also thank you very much for writing on my Talk page along with Prod, so here it is, I've been thinking of this for quite a while now.

I also have something for the Famicom/MSX2 Ganbare Goemon! Karakuri Dōchū. On your guide you group them both together, but the MSX2 version actually has a ton more levels that the Famicom version doesn't.
You see, I have these 2 games named Astrobatics and Alien Sky that I made a Stage 2 guide from, and what bothers me is that no matter how much I think of how to improve the guides for these 2 (I can still improve them, in fact 2 more overhauls each but it is not that significant anymore) I can't really think of what more I can provide for these 2 games to make the guides for them Stage 3 eligible, the issue I am thinking about is its levels, or missions as what the games refer, it is some sort of a real time mission
You see, on the Fami version, when you beat the game, you go to a new province/district of Japan (8 in all), but all the levels remain the same. You still get a different ending per district though.
Now, on the MSX2 version, when you finish the game, you go to the next district/province (7 in all), but the levels are completely different. There are actually 48 original levels in all. You get a different ending per province too.

Reason to remove compilation versions for games?
The problem with these missions is that they really can't be described anymore with text + picture, while these games have predictable pacing as what I mentioned in its Walkthrough page, this is a roadblock that I feel like its unnecessary to break through
I think its helpful to know about all the versions, and
systems. Since there are differences between them. IE. Ms. Pac-Man

About the <s>enchanted</s> enhanced sprites
Explaining these missions "down to the bone" as in referring to where would enemies come in, come out, and all that, just feels like unnecessary information and nobody would basically read it, a good example of a game just like this is Sky Force Reloaded, a game I have also nearly mastered a few months ago, I even have my runs in this game uploaded in my YouTube account and I can provide a sample, and just like these 2 games, Sky Force Reloaded also has the same kind of level, basically real time, it has predictable pacing but the levels are way too complex to be torn apart into text + picture form, if you want to recognize the levels of this game you would rather want to just do a trial and error, train your mind memory and muscle memory until you recognize where will enemies appear since enemy positions and appearances don't change, only drops do.

Hello there. I wanted to ask you something. About the enchanted sprites used in some of the articles, (such as for the Pac-Man article) How do you create them?
I have been thinking just now that what if the guides for Astrobatics and Alien Sky are already Stage 3 eligible at this point? I will still have to improve them but I believe once I did, they should be at least Stage 3 eligible, but I am afraid that some people may attempt to dispute its ranking and say that it may miss an information, which is also a big problem on my part because I cannot look for someone who has played these 2 games, finished it completely, and then decide to pay my guide a visit and judge it

Hey
Assuming that you gave me a go signal to make these guides Stage 3 eligible, I will take that into mind and once I have finally provided 2 more major overhauls I will upgrade it to Stage 3, then, if I was able to find someone who can read these guides and tell me how it is, if it came out as having a really good review saying that it is comprehensive enough, then I will upgrade it to Stage 4 but this is a process that I won't be able to do in just days unless if I am lucky enough to find one quick.

Sorry about categorizing Dragon Slayer IV – I didn't see the cat on the redirect until afterwards, and then I edit conflicted with you trying to take it out. :P Also, I'll check on that GIMP script tonight. Couldn't Castle Excellent/Walkthrough use template:scrolling map for its page now? Having that giant sprite doesn't seem like it is very helpful. Trig - 21:12, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
:Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I didn't realize that the file name was repurposed. I went ahead and fixed it without the scrolling map part. Not sure scrolling map would be very effective there, especially considering it's in a spoiler collapse. :Since you asked nicely, I have removed your block.  It will expire one hour from now.  However, if you give any of the sysops any reason to block you, such as not listening to their instructions, or spamming their talk page with useless information, I will not undo the block again.  You only get one chance.  Don't disturb other users unless it's necessary, and don't contribute content unless its absolutely relevant to the guide you are contributing to.  Ultimately, the one who will decide whether you get to edit or not is you.  Hundreds of other users have no problem following the directions, so it's not impossible.  Good luck.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 04:22, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi i was wondering, would you prefer when writing an article (e.g. enemies guide), if i had to make a quick change and I didn’t have the time to go through an entire thing at once, would you prefer me to initially either list them as headers that are empty underneath or list them in dots points (in case) and then expand on them when i have the chance? == Fist of the North Star buttons ==
Hey. Just wanted to say thank you for all the work you did on the Mighty Bomb Jack page. I recently discovered it while trying to make a full game map. All I came for was the images of all the rooms so I could layer them together in a GIMP project... but then I noticed that crazy shortcut from 5 to 11! Turns out it saves time in speedruns compared to warping between the Palace Rooms. It helped me recently get World Record!

Hi, I was wondering about these buttons: Atomis Atomis Atomis Atomis Atomis. Are these only ever going to be used on the Fist of the North Star (arcade) guide? Should they be replaced by normal control images or put into a control template? I want to categorize them, but thought I'd find out what they're going to be used for first. Hey, I don't understand the series nav for Hokuto no Ken. Where would the new FotNS game go? It's for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, if that helps. : Ugh, that is... that is just ugly... I'm not sure to be honest with you, the whole thing could stand to be touched up.  The new game definitely is a combo of FotNS and DW.  So I really don't know how to classify it.  Frankly, that whole template is hardly divided up well, so if you just threw it on at the end of the first list, I don't think anyone would care or complain.  Probably the break down on Wikipedia would be the best way to reorganize the template.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 19:14, 17 October 2010 (CDT)

I know he's doing a good job; I just wanted to make sure he's aware of a good argument to do 4-6 before 4-5. When writing a walkthrough, it makes the most sense to put everything in a logical order. First thing I went and watched a speed run to see what I was getting into, next check for guides if I would even need one. Ding Ding Ding, none anywhere so I decided I'd finally give a guide a whirl and this seemed like the best place so here I am. I will probably make a guide for every Famicom game I get that doesn't have one here as time permits. My contributes will come soon, I'm getting tired of all the pop-ups of Wikia. --Abacos (talk) 18:30, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
::: By the way, my position is that there is a mistranslation in the Pokémon videogames: what they call "evolution" is just "growth" from young to adult, and what they call "species" are just "life stages". "Evolution" takes places from parents to children, not within the same individual. Also, less than 10% of them are supernatural creatures, the other ones being animals and plants (and artifacts) that can be easily classified according to Lynnaeus, who lived before Darwin and the Theory of Evolution. Therefore, I'm demostrating the bigots' criticism is pointless. A wise Irishman (I forgot the name) said: "People is not in pursuit of happiness: people just love to complain". ^_^ --Abacos (talk) 18:30, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Video game titles
Yes, I agree with you: articles (the, a, an), conjunctions (e.g.: and, or, thus) and prepositions (e.g.: of, to, from, by, in, with) are not capitalized unless they are the first word of a title. And I understood Notmyhandle's point too: section headers, unlike video game titles, have to be written with just the first letter capitalized. If that's the standard here, I don't object, I just wanted to be sure. --Abacos (talk) 21:03, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Spell classification
I saw your edit of the spell classification in the Dragon Quest pages. I definitely like "exploration" instead of "travel", and also "exploration+combat" instead of "healing", but on the other hand I think that two categories only is an oversimplification. In particular, I disagree with merging debuff and attack spells in the same category.

With we agreed on five categories (although I initially proposed four only), and such categories can be applied to every role-playing video game, and allow not to have any exception or "miscellaneous" spell.

Actually, I'm searching for a standardization of the mechanics of role-playing video games. The five spell categories and the Character Class Triangle (see a few on my user page) are two examples of this. My philosophy is that once a general mechanics system of the RPVGs will be found, the player will be able to fully enjoy the story told by the video game without necessity to re-learn the mechanics at the beginning of every video game.

Said this, the same definitions of five categories can always be applied, even to RPVGs that have less (e.g. Mega Man Battle Network 1 lacks "Healing" and "Exploration", i.e. all the "chips" are battle "spells"), therefore giving a standard to the beginner. For example, if you clear Final Fantasy 2, then start Dragon Quest 1 for the first time, all the spells do have different names, but if the spell lists on the respective StrategiWiki pages use the same identical classification, then this is really helpful. --Abacos (talk) 18:25, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

P.S.: You probably realized that I always wrote "one target" small and "All targets" capitalized on purpose. By the way, it's ok to have them all capitalized.

: By the way, are there some pictures by Akira Toriyama for the spells of Dragon Quest 4 too? I simply recycled those from Dragon Quest 3, since the two video games have the same spells (only one is different). --Abacos (talk) 18:32, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

::Having played a bunch of MMOs, I'm a big fan of buff/debuff being separate. Exploration/Travel is fine. However, I would be happier with separate columns for "Can be used during battle" and "Can be used outside of battle."  Classifying the spells as types isn't that important.  Also, we can't redefine buff/debuff.  In the description for the spell it should just say something like, "A buff that applies a <effect> for <duration>." For target, we can be more accurate and say "All allies", "One ally", "One enemy", or "All enemies" to be more specific. Non-combat travel spells aren't really applied to individuals; perhaps the target should be "Group", although "All allies" is, technically the same thing... Oh the joys of nuances. -- 20:00, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

I understand your point. From now on, I'll leave in peace strategy guides that are already there. Anyway, I suppose I can continue working on the "stubs" that I edited (some Ultima's, The 7th Saga etc.), right? Since I saw that there are 4000 guides but only 500 are complete (just one out of eight!), I'd like to help completing stubs before starting new ones, if you agree. (In particular, I'd like to help completing Ultima 4 before starting Ultima 5) --Abacos (talk) 09:46, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Ultima 3&4
Just one detail about Ultima 3&4: I only played the NES versions, that are known to be slightly different from the original ones (some different items, text semplifications here and there, etc.). Anyway, I think a guide about a NES version is better than no guide at all, do you agree? --Abacos (talk) 14:46, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

: By the way, I wrote most of the Ultima 5 walkthrough on codex.ultimaaiera.com. Would it be fair to copy and paste my sections from there? == Hi ! Im onto it !  :) ==

Thanks for the message... I will try to break up my SMAC guide and incorporate it!
I made a bit of a mess last time i added a link tho and didnt want to make more work for anyone.
Also my guide is specificly for dealing with dangerous human and transcend AI opponents on aggressive AI setting, so its not about civ building and diplomacy! (Thats well covered elsewhere) I was a little wary of popping some of these more extreme tactics into the general guides. I dont want to mess up your existing info! I also like to try and break up the dry subject matter with the occasional minor gag, about green police states shooting litter bugs or what have you, I hope thats acceptable. I'll try to break it into bits that will fit the various catagories - Im thinking I should label any additions I make with a note pointing out these are tactics and ideas Ive developed for militant games to combat the specific dangers found therein and are not always needed on more civilized worlds! - Thanks for the help and patience...  DARogers (talk) 05:36, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

DW3 enemy template
Yeah when I started the cleanup I was like "Wow this is ridiculous, I'll just do the overhaul and then continue to clean it up." But it is definitely worth the time to fix the template first before changing the page's parameters. Take a look at DW3enemy and let me know if there is anything else I should change. -- 17:50, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
:Yeah I saw the suggestion. I'm still thinking about it. Currently updating all the parameters; almost done. -- 04:25, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
::I'm not a fan of the multiple table solution; it adds an extra row or two and the cells don't line up logically. Combining the remake (not remix) columns makes sense. If there an exception is discovered, it can just be added with parentheses). I think adding the Japanese details to the notes works best because this is unnecessary, additional info. -- 06:22, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Game engine question
I keep finding unmade categories for specific game engines while working on category red links and can't find any pre-existing examples of some finished engine pages. Do you know where any examples might be found? I feel like I've seen some before but on the other hand it could be a case of why is this a link at all. I'm at a real loss on what to do.

Star Force version disambig/cats
Proc, Star Force has an alternate release, Mega Force, that you categorized. However, there was an Atari 2600 game that came out two years prior with the name Mega Force, which should take the page. How do we enable Mega Force to be categorized correctly as an alternate for Star Force in this situation? -- 15:36, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
:Good catch NMH, that's an obscure one.  I went ahead and moved the redirect from Mega Force to Mega Force (Arcade).  Simple enough, and it should suffice.  I'd just put a disambiguation link at the top of the Atari 2600 version article to refer people who are looking for the arcade game of the same name to Star Force. == Japanese romanization ==

I hate to bring this topic up again, but I can't find any of our/community previous discussions on the subject. I was looking at Kyūkai Dōchūki and was wondering if we should use the Kyuukai Doochuuki (or Douchuuki) as the name to avoid using non ascii characters in the title. Do you remember what the conclusion was? Per-guide standardization? My preference is duplicate vowels and avoid inserting u's for lengthened o sounds. -- 05:24, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
:That's hilarious, I saw that happening, and saw that it was NamcoRules, and simply decided that I didn't have the patience to deal with him right now.  I completely agree with you, I'm in favor of a) making every guide name capable of being typed out by a standard keyboard and b) in the case of arcade games, agreeing with MAME's spelling (Kyuukai Douchuuki) since that is the most likely spelling to be Googled.  NR is going to make the argument that he's following Wikipedia's spelling.  I know we've gone over that discussion before, but I too can't find it at the moment.  I'll initiate the conversation on NR's page, feel free to back me up.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 15:41, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation, I'll keep in mind from now on. : About tables editing: yes, I'm always converging towards a format that can display as much information as possible in the smallest possible space. All the Final Fantasy 1 tables I made so far are final version now. That format is the same I'm using on other pages, with minor changes to fit different video games:

Item !! Price !! Atk/Def !! Special effects !! Location !! anything else

: In my sandbox I also have two 100% complete tables for magic in Final Fantasy 1, but I'm not sure I'll ever move them out of there: they're extremely condensed and useful just for advanced players like me (see? I'm learning something from your observations :-) Thanks again). Moreover, the two magic tables have no room for all those cute sprites :-P Still, it would be a pity to delete them, after all the time spent writing them. --Abacos (talk) 12:46, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Getting Started standard naming versus sentence case
I don't mean to bring up stuff that creates work, but... Isn't it hypocritical of us to force sentence case on titles when we use "Getting Started" on every guide? We have two options: 1) be hypocritical (I'm okay with that) because we don't want to do the work to fully standardize, or 2) update our preload button for the ToC and run a bot to rename all of the pages... Thoughts? -- 21:51, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
:Lol, I brought up the same argument several years ago, but I was overruled.  Check out this discussion.  At this point, I think it's more of a headache to change it than it's worth, and that as undesirable as being hypocritical is, it's so low on the priority scale, that I'm willing to let the matter go.  Then again, if you think you could convince Prod, you'd have my support.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 02:50, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Kickle Cubicle original title
Hi Procyon.

* 迷宮 島 = Meikyuu Shima = Labyrinth Islands (Kickle Cubicle)
* 迷宮 神話 = Meikyuu Shinwa = Labyrinth Myth (Eggerland 2)

I admit my knowledge of Japanese is just basic, but I compared the kanji from different titles, as shown above, and checked using an online translator. I understood that "Meikyuu" can be equally translated as "labyrinth", "puzzle" and "mystery", while "shima" is both singular and plural. I chose "labyrinth" because of the similarity with the title of a more famous Eggerland game, from the series that Kickle Cubicle has many elements in common with. What's your opinion? --Abacos (talk) 11:38, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

:Labyrinth seems like a reference to the gameplay/tiled paths, but does mystery make sense in terms of the plot or setting? -- 15:34, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Deep Dungeon III: Yuushi he no Tabi romanization
Hi Proc, I hope you have time for this nuance. If ディープダンジョンIII 勇士への旅 literally translates as "Deep Dungeon III: The Journey to the Hero" why not use that as the title rather than the romanization? Also, if sticking with the romanization, why capitalize Yuushi (warrior/hero) and Tabi (journey)? Neither are proper nouns. -- 23:45, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
:Hi NMH, no problem, thanks for bringing this up.  To answer the first question, I'm using the romanization because that's the name that the game was actually published as.  Since no actual game with the title "Deep Dungeon III: The Journey to the Hero" was ever published, it wouldn't be proper to title the article with that name.  That applies to any game that was only released in Japan, and nowhere else.  As for the capitalization, just as you didn't capitalize "to" and "the" in the English title, people don't capitalize "he" and "no" in Japanese.  Basically, I took the title exactly as it was provided on the wp:Deep Dungeon page.  However, I'm seeing more evidence that I should concatenate "he" and "no" into one word.
