Hello, Mobility
Sourcing
I would be happy to know two things. I may sound direct behind words but this talk page setup can be confusing.
I'm looking to convert a lot of screenshots and you're responsible for a lot of em. Do you remember if you captured any of the screenshots below? If not, remember where they came from? I would share more, but can only generate 500 at a time!
There is a project I would like to start, one for making the walkthroughs, wikis, or etc./game-lists offline and e-reader friendly. This may be hard work but if it can be made systematic than this can be portable-friendly for all digital readers. Any comments of where I should go or if this crusade is worth the grail than I would appreciate a holler. :Hi Trig Jegman. Yeah, I captured a lot of those images personally, especially the single screen games like Combat, Bubble Bobble, Lode Runner, and Chack'n Pop. Other games like Castle Excellent and Athena were done so long ago, I'm not sure I'd be able to locate them again if I tried.  I have a tendency to add markup to them in the process of making them consumable for a walkthrough. I know this isn't the most satisfactory answer, but it's the best I have right now. If I somehow conjure up the source for some of the other images, I'll let you know.  But I'm more likely to stumble across them accidentally than intentionally.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 03:01, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
::Maybe to put this another way, are there any significant examples you can think of where you didn't self capture them? Trig - 04:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi Procyon. I apologize if I pointed out punctuation errors in the wrong way; truth is, in December I had to grade loads of reports from my Irish students, and they were full of grammar mistakes: in that case, it was my duty to point out their errors. I'm sorry I got carried away here, I didn't mean any harm, and I know I should not bring home work problems nor vice versa. By the way, my philosophy is always: "if you make a mistake, I tell you with no hard feelings, and if I make a mistake, please tell me with no hard feelings as well", although sometimes I stray from it, but that's a mistake that I accept gladly to be told! Like in Ultima 4, I keep striving for enlightenment :-) --Abacos (talk) 20:08, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

No problem! After I finish the RSE guide, I'm going to apply the new templates me and Prod made to the FRLG pages too - Hopefully, it'll decrease the file size for them. Then I'll probably check out the other Pokémon guides to see what they're like, and maybe go onto a different franchise. [[User:Pakuchi|Pakuchi -- Someone! Anyone! ==I need some guidance==
Hi Procyon! Um, honestly I am kind of embarrassed on pinging you about this considering that you are the head of StrategyWiki, but the thing is, I want to ask for guidance from you regarding about some of my guides because recently I have been thinking of something, I want to know what you think and what will be your advice to me regarding about this, this will be somewhat long so I hope you have time to read, also thank you very much for writing on my Talk page along with Prod, so here it is, I've been thinking of this for quite a while now.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm just scratching my head. Even if I shouldn't mention Monopoly, it can be hard to explain how the game works. Anyway, it will be a long way since I tried without success, to find a walkthrough for this game. So making this should help alleviate that pressure. Anyway, better let you get on with your work.
You see, I have these 2 games named Astrobatics and Alien Sky that I made a Stage 2 guide from, and what bothers me is that no matter how much I think of how to improve the guides for these 2 (I can still improve them, in fact 2 more overhauls each but it is not that significant anymore) I can't really think of what more I can provide for these 2 games to make the guides for them Stage 3 eligible, the issue I am thinking about is its levels, or missions as what the games refer, it is some sort of a real time mission

Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 03:50, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Here are some samples of it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRzhucERGqE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7X_VzuQG14

About your tip
The problem with these missions is that they really can't be described anymore with text + picture, while these games have predictable pacing as what I mentioned in its Walkthrough page, this is a roadblock that I feel like its unnecessary to break through

Thank you for the tip; I actually misread the last contribution timestamp (I don't know how I could manage to misread that, I guess I just "read" 2013 and stopped).
Explaining these missions "down to the bone" as in referring to where would enemies come in, come out, and all that, just feels like unnecessary information and nobody would basically read it, a good example of a game just like this is Sky Force Reloaded, a game I have also nearly mastered a few months ago, I even have my runs in this game uploaded in my YouTube account and I can provide a sample, and just like these 2 games, Sky Force Reloaded also has the same kind of level, basically real time, it has predictable pacing but the levels are way too complex to be torn apart into text + picture form, if you want to recognize the levels of this game you would rather want to just do a trial and error, train your mind memory and muscle memory until you recognize where will enemies appear since enemy positions and appearances don't change, only drops do.

Looking for maps in Gauntlet is a bit hard because "gauntlet level maps" are too common words: and when I do find maps, they're probably from a different version or just include the walls (no enemies, treasures, keys, or anything else). Anyways, since that date, I found a way to generate the complete maps (up to spawn points for all players), I'm currently tweaking it to make the task easier.
I have been thinking just now that what if the guides for Astrobatics and Alien Sky are already Stage 3 eligible at this point? I will still have to improve them but I believe once I did, they should be at least Stage 3 eligible, but I am afraid that some people may attempt to dispute its ranking and say that it may miss an information, which is also a big problem on my part because I cannot look for someone who has played these 2 games, finished it completely, and then decide to pay my guide a visit and judge it

(It's based on stitching screenshots, of course, but I could edit the MAME cheats so enemies wouldn't move and I could pan the camera just how I like it. I'll upload the method to my user page.)
Assuming that you gave me a go signal to make these guides Stage 3 eligible, I will take that into mind and once I have finally provided 2 more major overhauls I will upgrade it to Stage 3, then, if I was able to find someone who can read these guides and tell me how it is, if it came out as having a really good review saying that it is comprehensive enough, then I will upgrade it to Stage 4 but this is a process that I won't be able to do in just days unless if I am lucky enough to find one quick.

Couldn't Castle Excellent/Walkthrough use template:scrolling map for its page now? Having that giant sprite doesn't seem like it is very helpful. Trig - 21:12, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
:Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I didn't realize that the file name was repurposed.  I went ahead and fixed it without the scrolling map part.  Not sure scrolling map would be very effective there, especially considering it's in a spoiler collapse.  Could be a good idea, I'm not sure.  <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 00:51, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

I would like to know how you obtained the maps of the areas in the game, with all the sprites in it (for example, the map of Viridian Forest). Did you use a kind of tool to extract it from the game ROM ?

Question
:Hi Drake, I actually just used publicly available maps which were generated on several Japanese websites, and modified them for use with the guide.  I believe there are a few map ripping tools available for B/R/Y, but I have never used them before.  I simply searched the web for maps which were not watermarked or claimed by any particular author.  Hope that answers your question. <span style="color:red">Pro</span><span style="color:grey">cyon</span> 05:23, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick answer !
Hi i was wondering, would you prefer when writing an article (e.g. enemies guide), if i had to make a quick change and I didn’t have the time to go through an entire thing at once, would you prefer me to initially either list them as headers that are empty underneath or list them in dots points (in case) and then expand on them when i have the chance? Thank you Sclera1 (talk) 06:28, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I found some map editing tools but I could only have the maps with no sprites on it (no characters, items etc), so they seemed empty (I wanted the maps mostly for a nostalgic and collecting purpose). As you say, I will just search through the web to find already existing ripped maps, that should be simpler.
Anyway, thanks again for your great work with this walkthrough !

:I appreciate you digging in to see if there was any real world examples of a game named Kikai.  None of these seem to relate to the content that the user added, so it's difficult to determine whether the user's content was based on a real game in development, or more of a fantasy wish-list game.  I'm not going to worry much about it though. : Let me add this: just a couple of years ago I played for the first time Dragon Quest 4 (NES), where the characters have artificial intelligence. Thus I discovered the spellcasting weapons and the great usefulness of debuff spells, and this revolutioned my playing experience. Reading game guides, I seemed to understand that these two aspects are largely ignored by most players, who instead seem to focus just on dealing damage and healing. I therefore try to expand everyone's playing experience by highlighting these facts (I mean spellcasting weapons and debuff spells). Does it make things complicated? Maybe I should simply advertise Dragon Quest 4 a lot as RPG for beginners :-D --Abacos (talk) 11:12, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

TY for work on the Mighty Bomb Jack page
Sorry for the additional uploads on http://strategywiki.org/wiki/File:Pacman_Pattern.png
Hey. Just wanted to say thank you for all the work you did on the Mighty Bomb Jack page. I recently discovered it while trying to make a full game map. All I came for was the images of all the rooms so I could layer them together in a GIMP project... but then I noticed that crazy shortcut from 5 to 11! Turns out it saves time in speedruns compared to warping between the Palace Rooms. It helped me recently get World Record!

What happens, I see, is as soon as the new file is uploaded, it shows the old one as what was uploaded. So I tried again, and it still happened. I then realized this was the browser cache, and reloading made the new one appear; so I tried reverting, not realizing this would leave multiple copies of the file. So if you could delete those, at least the middle three. No sense to keep all those duplicates.Eric B (talk) 18:10, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
I was hoping you could tell me where you found that trick. Seems crazy to think someone could discover it by accident. Did you do a code disassembly or was it in some sort of Nintendo Power or old school strategy guide? Hi Procyon. I expected that, I felt insulted and I overreacted. From now on I'll limit myself to editing guide content and I'll refrain from editing grammar, as I can't see which grammar rules are ok and which ones are to be taken easy.

But can I explain myself? The day before I just agreed with Moydow about that one edit, but then Paco wrote "we're not in school" and "your special grammar rules". From my point of view, that's an insult. First of all, because it's insulting schools, and second because that edit followed a codified grammar rule that was written down in grammar books. <u>I accept the new grammar convention</u>, as I said, and I'm not going to question grammar anymore,  but I feel that Paco's words were unfair. Please tell me if I am over-sensitive. If I am, I apologize. --Abacos (talk) 10:46, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Table sort
Hi Procyon. I usually put the sortable flag in most tables, I simply forgot about it lately. By the way, I never knew the names of monsters, that's why I never sort them by name. If I'm a minority, I just learned it now, so I have no problem changing trend. I usually sort monsters by earned experience, that is close to game progression, but there's no exp. in the Zelda series, indeed. Ok, I fix the page. --Abacos (talk) 14:03, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm using Chrome on Windows 7. The thing is, I usually get it back by pressing the forward button, but this time it didn't work for some reason. It told me I lost session data and wouldn't let me get it back. I just ended up starting over from scratch. This time, I was really unlucky. But now I'm taking a sort of different approach to what I was doing. It would be nice to know a few tips though.

I also checked the GBA version (with a different map/tileset) - it also reaches that floor at the bottom right corner (where D is on the map, but should be "C"). == Athena - a big thank you ==

Hi,

I'd like to personally thank you for the amazing effort you have put into the Athena FAQ. I've been trying to master this game for maybe 15 years, and its only been a year since I could even get off the FIRST LEVEL the game is so hard!

I recently spent £300 importing the arcade pcb from Japan and finally with this FAQ I feel I might be able to understand the mechanics behind this rare and weirdly playable game. If more than four people had ever heard of this title then perhaps there would be greater information on this game out there...

Thanks bro!
