Controls[edit]

Outside[edit]

  • Left dpad / Right dpad: Use left and right on the direction pad to guide your safety net firemen back and forth in an attempt to catch the Flying Hero, or items that are falling to the ground. Your firemen will travel faster when not directly beneath the Flying Hero, and slow down to the Flying Hero's speed when they are below him.
  • A button: Only used in the bonus stage to make your safety net firemen hop up, in order to leap over gaps that may appear between clouds.

Inside[edit]

  • Neutral dpad: Use the direction pad to direct your fire fighter inside the building. Press left and right to walk in either direction. Press down to squat down, and press up to pass through open doorways.
  • A button: Press the A button to spray water ahead of you. This can be used to remove the flames that float through the hallway.
  • B button: Press the B button while standing in front of a door to open it and examine what's inside. Whenever you open a door, you automatically move to the right of it.

Player[edit]

Throughout most of the game, you do not control the Flying Hero, but rather the two firemen assigned to ensure his safety by bouncing him back up in the air with a safety net. As the Flying Hero bounces around a stage, you must guide the two firemen on the ground so that they are beneath the Flying Hero before he hits the ground. This will send him back up in the air.

While soaring through the air, the Flying Hero will do a couple of things. If he hits a window with fire, he will weaken the fire a bit, and ricochet off the window. If he flies empty-handed past a window with a person waiting to be rescued, he will gather a person from that window and carry him or her down with himself, releasing them when he hits the bottom. If he hits abird or the side of the screen, he will simply bounce off them.

How the Flying Hero flies back up into the sky is a function of where he lands on the safety net. If he lands in the middle, he will continue on with the same momentum and height that he had previously. But if he hit the sides (or rather, one of the two firemen), it will change his trajectory. If he hits the side that's against his direction of travel (e.g. he hits the left side while flying right), he will gain height, but lose forward momentum. If he hits the side that's with his direction of travel, he will likely travel even faster in his previous direction, but lose some height. The Flying Hero can be difficult to catch if he is traveling too fast.

It is important to note that the game tries to help the player by speeding up the two ground firemen when they are too far away from the Flying Hero, and slowing them down when they are located below him. This can lead to surprising results if you attempt to catch an item that is falling in another part of the screen, as you may abruptly change speeds as a result of moving away or towards the Flying Hero.
