Trading various sorts of Goods between towns is a good way of making money. Improving your Trade skill will allow you to get better deals and make money more quickly.

Tips[edit]

Avoid trading Dyes, Hides, or Vodka as these are not very profitable and are about the same price everywhere.

  • Buy furs under 100, sell over 200.
  • Buy spice in southern parts under 500, sometimes under 200, and sell at northern parts of map for 900+. Reval sometimes buys for 1100+, and Vyborg sometimes 2000+.
  • Buy velvet in southern parts under 500, sometimes under 200 and sell at northern parts of map for 900+. Reval sometimes buys for 1100+, and Vyborg sometimes 2000+.
  • Buy oil under 50, sell over 200, at the northeastern parts 600+. Tula and Ryazan sometimes buy for 700+.
  • Buy tools under 50, sell over 200.
  • Buy wool under 25, sell over 100.
  • Buy linen under 40, sell over 100.
  • Buy iron under 50, sell over 200.
  • Buy powder in cities for up to 200, sell it in fortresses or castles for over 900. This does not always work.
  • Buy pottery in southern cities for up to 50, sell it in villages for over 90, sometimes over 120
  • Village will buy : leatherwork, alcohol (beer, wine, vodka), hemp, pottery, flour, tools, salt, spices
  • Fortress will buy : fresh meat, gunpowder, other food

You will notice where things sell low and buy high for the above listed items, you will learn how to loop around the map and make 100,000+ per hour if done right and depending on your trade skill, trade skill does impact the profits greatly. Hire Ingri, she has 4 trade skill.

When you are completely broke, try to trade cheap goods from a village to a fortress or to a city.

Caravans are unique to With Fire and Sword. To hire a caravan, speak to the Mayor. A caravan will carry goods from the city or fortress of its origin to a chosen destination, but it can only carry one type of good, and it can only carry an amount of 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 of that type of good. Before sending a caravan to a destination, it is required to hire at least two guards (50 thalers each) to guard the caravan. Up to 20 guards can be hired, but unless the caravan is very profitable, hiring 20 guards will often be more expensive than the profit you make from the caravan.
